Position Summary:
As a Design Manager at JR Butler, you will play a critical role in managing design processes, ensuring deadlines are met, and maintaining efficiency and quality standards. You will lead design charrettes, oversee content creation, and collaborate closely with project teams to address issues and drive quality enhancements.
Responsibilities:
Manage design deadlines, manpower, capacity, and labor efficiency.
Maintain and enforce standard work guidelines for the design team.
Conduct annual performance reviews for the design team members.
Lead content creation and design charrettes to foster innovation and collaboration.
Serve as an "Envelope Specialist," ensuring meticulous attention to detail in design execution.
Communicate effectively with project teams to address issues throughout the project lifecycle.
Backfill department responsibilities as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
Coordinate with engineers for preliminary engineering and technical integration.
Aid in quality control efforts and drive enhancements to ensure project deliverables meet standards.
Review project-specific problem-solving initiatives and drive improvements to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Clearly define requirements for project inputs to streamline workflow and ensure accuracy.
Collaborate with Estimating to identify scope gaps and refine project bids.
Provide training and coaching for design team leads to foster professional development and skill enhancement.
Problem-solve abnormalities in executing and improving workflow processes.
Key Performance Indicator (KPI): Increase margin through effective utilization of the charrette process.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience in architectural design management or drafting industry. Alternatively, 12+ years of experience in the drafting industry with a strong understanding of construction processes and standards.
Proficiency in CAD software, particularly Revit, and 3D modeling tools (SketchUp, Rhino, etc.).
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and drive performance improvements.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on efficiency, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
