The Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University invites applications for two positions: One Assistant Professor Position and One Assistant/Associate Professor Position. Both positions are in rhetoric, politics, and culture with one position specializing in political communication and the second specializing in media criticism. These positions will involve teaching, research, and service responsibilities. Employment would begin August 2025.Rank and title will be assigned by the college using department and university standards.All positions are subject to the availability of funds.Required Qualifications:PhD in Communication Studies or Communication-related fieldPreparedness in teaching undergraduate and graduate rhetorical methodsOne position will require clear specialization in research and preparedness to teach political communication.One position will require clear specialization in research and preparedness to teach media criticism.Demonstrated record of service to department, university, profession, and/or communitiesAssociate Level Candidates must also have:Demonstrated record of university level teaching in one of the above-mentioned areas of specialization, and proof of teaching effectiveness appropriate for the associate professor rank (approximately six years of teaching experience).Scholarship record commensurate with associate level rank.Demonstrated record of service to the department, university, profession, and/or communities at the associate level rank (approximately six years of service experience).Preferred Qualifications:Contribute to the delivery of communication courses at the undergraduate level for our minors in Political Communication, Science Communication, Health Communication, and/or Leadership Communication.Preparedness in teaching undergraduate and graduate social/protest movements coursesPreparedness in teaching undergraduate and graduate public address coursesInterest or experience in collaborating on civic engagement and advocacy initiatives, especially those involving students and the broader community.Experience or potential for external grant fundingEvidence of a dedication to professional and/or instructional developmentPreparedness to teach, mentor, and conduct service in multiple modalities especially face-to-face, but also in hybrid, and completely online.To assure full consideration, please submit the following by October 1, 2024:Cover letter that includes your qualifications and fit with the job descriptionCV (including list of courses taught)Evidence of teaching effectivenessUnofficial transcripts (all in one document)Semi-finalist candidates will be notified when they need to submit letters of recommendations from their listed references.The selected candidates will be required to provide official transcripts from all degree-granting universities.Questions regarding this position should be directed to Dr. Rebekah Fox, Search Committee Chair, at rf24@txstate.edu.Proposed Start Date:
