We are looking for a highly adaptive, creative and inspiring hands-on Art Director to be an integral part of our design team. The ideal candidate will be thoughtful, have strong design and leadership sensibilities, and will enjoy the balance of being both a hands-on designer and strategic leader.At Mystic, we want to create stunning visuals that transport our players to another world and bring the game's story and characters to life. We feel that a beautiful game is critical in creating the overall player experience. It is the Art Team’s mission to create an aesthetically pleasing and cohesive game world that fulfills the player's fantasy of being a part of an epic adventure.We are seeking an experienced Art Director to help establish a beautifully stylized visual direction for our upcoming VR game. The game is a 3v3 MOBA experience filled with memorable characters and immersive environments. The Game Art Director will oversee the game’s visual design, ensuring that the visual language of our game is incredibly high quality and appealing to players. This role will report to our CEO.RESPONSIBILITIESConcept and pitch high-level game conceptsCommunicate and collaborate with other disciplines to craft and communicate the artistic vision of the projectsSchedule and track tasks that help our art team (outsourced teams, contractors or internal teammates) execute on our goals as efficiently as possibleClearly communicate concepts and designs through sketches, high fidelity comps, and prototypes to various stakeholdersGuide cross-functional design (concept, UI, 3D, animation, etc.) from ideation through executionIntegrate UI into Unity, working closely with engineers to ensure artwork is accurate across gameplayLeverage user research and analytics to resolve and optimize usability and/or customer experience issuesDrive improvement of design tools and processes, focused on creativity and innovationContribute to art production according to your skill set to round out gaps within a small art teamWhat we're looking for7+ year’s work experience with a focus on game art, with experience across product design, user interface, and graphic designDeep expertise and at least 3 years of experience in at least one art field (e.g., character, environment, concept)At least 2 years’ experience working with UnityDeep understanding of the game development process and art disciplinesStrong understanding of art fundamentals, multiple art styles, anatomy, appealExcellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills & experience with effective feedback for outsourcing and contractorsStrong leadership skills in order to lead a creative team in crafting a distinct, cohesive visual style, with at least 2 years of experience directing and supporting artists across multiple disciplinesExperience working in interactive media and/or game development, some AAA game experience preferredKnowledge of Photoshop and 3D software (e.g., Maya)Ability to accept feedback and adapt to itA willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.Bonus Skills5 years of proven experience as an Art Director in the video game industry (or other relevant experience)At least 3 years of experience designing characters of a wide variety and broad appealExperience working with VR games, PC or standalone deviceProject management software expertise (Jira preferred)Strong understanding of color theory and how color affects mood & focal points - with a focus on modern fashion-forward aestheticsCONTRACT DETAILSEstimated Duration:

This is the yearly salary within the US: $100,000 - $150,000. This range is determined by an array of factors, including geographic location, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is not eligible for benefits.Location:

This role is a completely remote role, open to applicants in any location in the United States. Interaction with other Mystic team members and work delivery will be conducted remotely. Note that interactions with the Mystic team will typically take place during working hours in the Pacific Standard Timezone (PST).
