This role will oversee a group of NABET Union Engineers who support and maintain the distribution infrastructure for all of FOX’s Cable and National Networks, as well as support the new joint venture with Disney and Warner Brothers Discovery called Venu.At FOX, you will have full permission to bring your best tech game to invent and build technology that delivers a high-quality viewer experience to millions across FOX networks, digital platforms, mobile applications, websites, and licensing partnerships.The way we consume media has fundamentally changed. You do – because you help build the technology to realize it!ABOUT YOUYou care about your team and their diverse perspectives and are invested in their success.You are excited by new technology and its potential to change how things are done.You have an entrepreneur's spirit and enjoy problem solving.You LOVE getting stuff done, not just talking about it!A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIESEngineering & SupportFollows standard operating procedures and documentation to support the operations team in a 24/7 environment.Builds and maintains FOX’s & Venu’s compression & transport infrastructure.Conducts lab, performance, and system tests and prototype efforts that can continually evolve FOX’s architecture and infrastructure.Supports evaluation of solutions portfolio against third-party offerings.Have strong analytical, reasoning, and technical troubleshooting skills; be available for major issues 24/7 or on a rotating basis set forth from the department Director.Collaboration & PartnershipsSupports the LA TOC in day-to-day operations and assists users with technical issues or concerns.Partners with the Engineering and Standards & Advanced Technology teams to develop groundbreaking technology solutions for challenging business issues.Collaborates with engineering teams, operations teams, and third-party vendors to develop long-term strategy, product development, and implementation road maps.Manages the distribution engineering team who builds, maintains, and continually evolves FOX’s architecture and infrastructure.Performance ImprovementKnows data is critical to making informed business decisions and uses it to understand and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your already amazing team's performance.Analyzes dashboards and constantly optimizes system security and testing, minimizing bugs making it to final products.Prioritizes the use of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to motivate the team.People Management & DevelopmentEmbodies a culture of continuous learning, especially in emerging technologies.Is motivated by being part of a high-performing team and delivering high-quality products.Enjoys learning from and coaching others.Leads team meetings occasionally and conducts weekly one-on-ones with engineering staff, completing team performance evaluations.Develops a healthy working environment with good work/life balance among staff members.Provides opportunities to staff members to build new skills/knowledge on emerging broadcast/distribution technologies.WHAT YOU WILL NEEDMaintain and troubleshoot compressed and uncompressed workflows.Strong MPEG/JPEG decoding, encoding, transcoding, processing, multiplexing, encryption, decryption, uplink/downlink processes, master control, etc.Build strong knowledge of SCTE insertion systems, media contribution/distribution.Have familiarity with on-prem test and measurement platforms; acquire the ability to work effectively across different projects and teams.Advanced maintenance of Satellite and linear distribution, architecture/deploying, monitoring, alerting, and/or data analysis.Lead new projects, collaborate with various teams, test, and validate new systems.Subject matter expert in one major Distribution system.Conduct lab, performance, and system tests and prototype efforts that can continually evolve FOX’s architecture and infrastructure of the SMPTE 2110 suite of standards.Familiar with newer ARQ video codecs and compression i.e. SRT, RTP, Zixi, HLS, and video delivery over the internet.NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKERBachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical experience in Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or related Tech field.Advanced knowledge of video compression & codecs, such as SMPTE ST-2110, JPEGXS, HEVC.Knowledge and experience with emerging technologies such as 4K High Dynamic Range and HDR10+ is a plus.Knowledge of industry standards such as the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents.
