Job Summary:

The Marist College Teacher Education Department seeks candidates for the position of

Program Director and Professional Lecturer of Teacher Education

to begin in the fall 2025.

This position provides coordination for the 5-year Adolescence/Students with Disabilities Education program (grades 7-12) and offers guidance and vision for this critical area of teacher preparation. This is a full time position with a 24-credit teaching load; 12 credit release for administrative responsibilities.

We are excited to announce the opening this fall (2024) of the fully renovated Dyson building which houses our state-of-the-art Teaching Methods Lab with adjoining Maker Space and separate Curriculum Resource room.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a doctorate degree in Adolescence- Secondary Education or a related field, teacher certification, teaching experience in P-12 schools, and a student-centered approach to preparing future educators. Applicants should be able to model culturally responsive pedagogical approaches across all courses and foster inclusive classroom environments, experience or knowledge of practices for with Students with Disabilities.

Essential Functions:

Administrative Responsibilities:

Conducts formal review of all MAT students in the junior year and those seeking to transfer to Marist.

Advises all candidates in the MAT program in partnership with content advisors.

Responsible for fieldwork and student teaching placements for all MAT students.

Maintains positive relationships with P-12 partner schools.

Meets regularly with the 8 content area departments on campus to maintain open lines of communication about advising and bolster internal recruitment to teacher education programs.

Hires all part-time faculty associated with MAT: to teach courses; to be student teacher supervisors; to be cooperating teachers.

Provides orientation for students in MAT program.

Provides orientation for part-time faculty who serve as supervisors or cooperating teachers.

Updates handbook for student teachers and facilitates student teaching seminars.

Recommends MAT students for certification; remains current with relevant NYSED regulations.

With support from the Assessment Coordinator, maintains assessment system for MAT program.

Addresses student concerns that arise in the MAT program

Creates and staffs schedule of courses each term.

Lecturer Responsibilities:

Teaches 12 credits (2:2) in undergraduate or graduate courses associated with the MAT program.

In conjunction with the content area academic advisors, serves as an academic advisor to students in the MAT program.

Participates in department, School, and faculty plenary meetings

Engages in professional activity, as relevant to the position

Participates in open house events

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include:

Teaching certification in a content area grades 7-12

At least 3-5 years of classroom teaching P-16

At least 3 years of administrative experience in a teacher preparation program.

Expertise in curriculum development

403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity - Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.

Tuition Benefits:

Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.

College pays 100% tuition only.

Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the College.

About the Department/School:

The Teacher Education Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with departments for Psychology, Crime & Justice Studies, and Social Work. The Teacher Education Department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including: (1) elementary education, grades 1-6, with dual certification for students with disabilities (2) a birth through second grade add-on teacher certification, and (3) a 5-year MAT adolescence education, grades 7 - 12, with dual certification for students with disabilities in eight content areas (English, math, social studies/history, biology, chemistry, earth science, Spanish, and French). The department also offers an advanced master's degree (MSED) program in two delivery models: as part of our in-house 5-year accelerated program or as an asynchronous online 16-month program.
