For over a century, the BSO has been recognized as one of America’s leading orchestras and one of Maryland’s most significant cultural institutions. As the largest cultural institution in Maryland, the BSO is internationally recognized and locally admired for its innovation, performances and recordings, and educational community initiatives including OrchKids.OrchKids uses music as a vehicle for students to develop 21st century skills (creativity, collaboration, leadership, etc.) that are transferable to all areas of their lives. Marin Alsop, Music Director Laureate of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and OrchKids Founding Director, shaped OrchKids into the cornerstone of the BSO’s community engagement efforts across the city with her artistic leadership and direction. OrchKids was founded in 2008 with 30 students at one elementary school with seed funding from Marin Alsop and Founding Donors Rheda Becker and Robert E. Meyerhoff.OrchKids now works with seven schools in Baltimore City, serving over 1,800 children from Pre-K through 12th grade during school, after school, and in weeklong workshops.In collaboration with several community partners OrchKids provides music education, instruments, academic assistance, meals, mental health resources, connection to social services, as well as performance and mentorship opportunities at no cost to students and families. OrchKids is an acknowledged leader in the El Sistema and social-change through music movement throughout the world.JOB SUMMARY

The OrchKids Artistic and Program Operations Coordinator reports to the OrchKids Artistic and Program Operations Manager and works collaboratively with all OrchKids team members. The OrchKids Artistic and Program Operations Coordinator is an essential member of the OrchKids team and is responsible for all operational and logistical components for special projects, off-site concerts/events, and workshops/guest artists. The Artistic team works in conjunction with OrchKids Education and Program departments to ensure students’ musical and academic success as they matriculate through elementary, middle, and high school, and beyond. This position coordinates all aspects of these initiatives. Finally, this role also provides program support by overseeing the OrchKids instrument inventory and instrument supplies, which includes the acquisition of needed instruments and instrument supplies including instrument donations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

External Event/Performance Coordination:Work closely with OrchKids staff and teachers to coordinate all operational and logistical elements for OrchKids external events and performances, including student rosters, supplies/needed equipment, equipment transportation, student transportation plan, food plan, concert flow, and concert repertoire.Keep the OrchKids external events/performance calendar current and organized.Create and distribute permission slips for students in both English and Spanish.External Initiatives:Coordinate and schedule all BSO coachings and interaction between the BSO education department (Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra), including side-by-side events.Coordinate external summer camps logistics, audition and mock auditions, and communicate and collect any necessary medical and health waivers for field trips and summer camps; including itineraries, parent packets, travel plan, food plan, housing plan, etc.Create a list of chaperones and supervise kids on field trips and ensure that they have their instrument, music, and other belongings.Communicate with parents about students’ availability and solicit interest for external opportunities/camp.Create all necessary documents/arrangements for guest artists, special guests/visitors, and other relevant collaborators including itineraries, contracts, travel plan, food plan, housing plan, etc.Coordinate Collective Composition workshop logistics and communicate scheduling with OrchKids teams, teachers, and workshop facilitators.Work closely with Artistic and Program Operations Manager and other OrchKids team members in executing operational and logistical components of all pathways programs and partnerships.Instrument Inventory/Supplies Coordination:Coordinate the tracking and maintenance of the OrchKids instrument inventory database.Coordinate all necessary instrument repairs.Keep record of all donated instruments to the OrchKids program, including adding all donations to the inventory database.Coordinate the exchange of equipment including the transportation from school to school.Maintain dedicated storage for all OrchKids instruments and other related materials.Coordinate the acquisition of instruments, instrument supplies, and other program infrastructure orders.Assist in OrchKids summer session load in and load out as well as work as a proxy in distribution of necessary instrument supplies to students/teachers.Supervise interns/volunteers, as needed.QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

Background in arts management, non-profit management, and/or arts production is a plus.Passion for the mission of using music as a vehicle of social change.Driver’s license and car.25 or older (car rental purposes).The job duties sometimes require prolonged standing and lifting heavy objects up to 25 pounds.Ability to delegate duties to and oversee interns.Demonstrated effective planning and organizational skills, able to meet deadlines consistently in a timely manner.Personal leadership through example coupled with ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment.Ability to multi-task calmly and to handle emergencies effectively.Ability to work with families from a wide range of social-economic backgrounds.Effective interpersonal skills.Effective child management skills.Superior written and verbal communication skills.Strong people skills, and the ability to maintain tact, diplomacy and the strictest confidence as needed.Completion of a successful background check.Availability for frequent night and weekend events.Spanish-English bilingual strongly preferred but not required.COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
