DescriptionSt. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, KS, invites applications for the position of Full-time Director of Music. St. Joseph is a large suburban parish which boasts a renovated church featuring an Allen 3-manual organ and Steinway piano. The Director of Music will oversee all musical aspects of parish liturgical events, including five weekend Masses, Solemnities, Feasts, and special occasions. Responsibilities encompass directing four choirs, supervising four paid organists, and scheduling all music ministers. Candidates should demonstrate a strong Roman Catholic faith, deep knowledge of liturgy, and exceptional proficiency in keyboard playing, conducting, and voice development. This role requires proactive leadership, effective communication, and a passion for nurturing spiritual growth through music. Interested applicants are encouraged to send their resume to mthomas@stjoeshawnee.org or call (913) 248-4562.RequirementsSchedule liturgical ministers for all Masses including musicians, lectors, EMHCs, hospitality workers, tech ministry, and altar servers, totaling about 300 individuals.Schedule music selections for five weekend liturgies as well as feast days and other special Masses including Holy Week, Confirmation, and First Communion.Supervise paid keyboard musicians and hire substitute musicians as needed.Supervise and evaluate cantors.Direct and provide accompaniment for the Hosanna Choir from approximately September until June with a weekly rehearsal and usually biweekly Mass.Direct the Adult Choir from approximately September until June with a weekly rehearsal and usually biweekly Mass.Provide direction and accompaniment for the Awesome Angels Children’s Choir during the school year with a weekly rehearsal and monthly Mass.Provide direction and accompaniment for the Resurrection Choir at funerals when requested.Provide accompaniment for the weekly All School Mass.Provide accompaniment for the monthly Community Adoration, Stations of the Cross during Lent, and other events such as the Corpus Christi Procession when asked.Create weekly slideshows for use at weekend liturgies.Act as the first point of contact regarding music for all weddings at the parish.Create worship aids or pew cards as needed.Schedule the livestream.Upload content to YouTube when asked.Oversee the instruments and schedule tunings and maintenance as needed.Coordinate the purchase, maintenance, and distribution of liturgical music resources and music licenses.Promote music ministry and encourage its growth.Work with the supervisor, Deacon Mark Mies, as he sees fit.Other duties as assigned.
