The

Demographic Research & Planning Specialist

is responsible for collecting, researching, and analyzing a broad range of demographic data sources, including student records and population data sets. Key duties include generating reports, using statistical analysis to develop student projections, assessing demographic research, and participating in summaries. The role also involves analyzing proposals for attendance zone changes, responding to inquiries related to zoning and enrollment data, and maintaining quality control of maps and documents. Required experience includes at least five years of professional experience in research, mapping, or data analysis, with a preference for experience in school or enrollment data. A bachelors degree in urban planning, mathematics, geography, economics, or a related field is required, along with proficiency in statistical methods, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

Perform the collection, research and analysis of a broad range of demographic data sources such as student records, population data sets obtained from the district and local and state agenciesGenerate reports, graphs and charts to collate information collected and develop presentations

Use statistical analysis and develop student projections and enrollment by school or cluster formproposed boundary changesCompile and assess demographic research and statistical studies involving projections inenrollment fluctuations at schools and various areas in the districtParticipate in summaries and other written materials to ensure the access to demographicinformation and allow stakeholders to make informed decisionsAnalyze proposals for attendance zone changes and its effect on planning for schoolconstruction projectsRespond to inquiries related to zoning and enrollment data, including demographic andgeographic issues from district staff and outside agenciesParticipate in field on-site surveys to determine demographic and geographic studentpopulation data and project classroom capacitiesDevelop and maintain zone grid maps to determine school locations, boundaries for the district

Maintains quality control of maps and documents

Performs other related tasks required.

Required Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years full-time paid professional experience in research, mapping or data analysis in demography, urban planning, statistics, geography or any related field.Experience in compiling and analyzing school or enrollment data is preferred

Required Education:

Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelors degree in urban planning, mathematics, geography, economics or related field

Knowledge/Skills:

Statistical methods of analysisGeographic Information Systems (GIS) and related computer software such as ArcGIS10

Mapping concepts and techniques in cartography

Research methods, principles and graphic presentations

Microsoft Office proficiency

Best practices and terminologies in demography
