Reporting to the Manager of Communications and Content Strategy, the Staff Writer is responsible for ensuring creative, consistent, and concise messaging across all projects to help effectively convey College achievements and news, recruit and retain students, and promote College events and opportunities. More specifically, the Staff Writer writes, prepares, and/or reviews content to be used for communications and marketing projects including College news and feature stories for the Colleges website; emails, postcards, and other promotional communications regarding College events and initiatives; College publications and newsletters; and other assigned projects.College Intro:

Works closely with communications, marketing, web, and design staff to develop effective communications that are on target for the brand.Writes clear, persuasive, creative original copy; executes revisions to existing pieces.Prepares content to comply with relevant editorial standards.Performs research, interviews informational sources, writes, and edits materials for publication and promotional and online usage, including website news and feature stories, College publications, newsletters, talking points and briefing documents, direct mail, email, advertisements, one pagers, signage, flyers, social media, and other materials as needed.Brainstorms ideas and creative concepts for communications materials.Assists the Manager of Communications and Content Strategy with facilitation of weekly e-newsletter,

Community Starts Here .Supports strategic planning of communications and marketing campaigns as directed by supervisor.Supports the publication planning, preparation, delivery, management, development, writing and editing of new and annual College publications.Delivers quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful, and courteous manner.Provides editorial assistance to members of the College community when requested.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in English, Journalism or related field required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.At least three (3) years of work experience in marketing/communications required.Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and Internet research required.Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines required.Excellent oral and written communication skills required.Superb grammar and copyediting/proofreading skills required.Knowledge of AP editorial style, journalistic writing practices, and necessity of commitment to accuracy required.Ability to edit copy to adhere to an editorial style and/or improve quality of content; write effective, engaging headlines; and understand necessary elements of compelling storytelling.Skilled in writing for various mediums, including: corporate/internal communications, promotional material, website content, and news and feature stories.Ability to successfully manage multiple, simultaneous writing assignments.Advanced writing and critical thinking skills required; ability to write effectively for different audiences required.Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an education environment preferred.
