Overview Princeton University Library (PUL) seeks a skilled and creative

Director, Library Communications

to develop and implement PUL’s internal and external communication strategies. The Director plays a vital role in ensuring that Library communications embody and advance PUL’s mission and strategic vision, as illustrated in our North Star statements, through advising the Dean of Libraries and the Library Strategy Council (LSC) on communications, including drafting and disseminating communications across a wide variety of topics; providing just-in-time communications in often fast-moving circumstances; and consulting on ongoing matters that impact the public image of PUL.

Reporting directly to the Dean of Libraries and working closely with members of the LSC and other PUL leaders, the Director conceptualizes, develops, and oversees the execution of initiatives that identify key messaging, promote awareness, and oversees brand consistency across all platforms. They also cultivate media relations with the University’s Office of Communications and press/media outlets to amplify public awareness of PUL initiatives and collaboratively develops and implements internal best practices, processes, and tools for enhanced organizational communications. The Director and their team advise staff across Library departments, harmonizing the look and feel of all Library communications, including voice, style, and tone for publicity, events, and outreach efforts to external stakeholders, while adhering to core messaging.

COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY AND PLANNING

Consult with and advise LSC regarding strategic communications internally and externally, including how messaging is positioned and presented.Working with library leadership, conceptualize, develop, and implement PUL’s Strategic Communications Plan, including monitoring and researching peer institution practices and industry trends.Actively engage with and represent PUL to external stakeholders, including campus communications colleagues, peer institutions’ peers, friends/alumni/donors, community colleagues, and others.COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAM DIRECTIONDirect implementation of the PUL Strategic Communications Plan, including ongoing review of strategies for content, key messaging, audiences, platforms.In support of the North Star statements, ensure diversity, equity and inclusion is strategically interwoven throughout all forms of communications, including news stories, social media, publicity messaging, and other channels of communications.Develop and coach a team of four staff, including a Publicity Manager, Communications Strategist, Library Secretary Specialist to the Friends of the Library, and a shared Administrative Assistant.Commission the design of digital and print publicity materials, including advertising and wall graphics for major Milberg Gallery exhibitions, the Tiger Tea Room Gallery, Mudd Library exhibitions, and other PUL exhibition spaces.Manage media assets that are created and used to reflect the Library’s identity.Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field10 years’ experience in related field with progressive experience managing and developing othersExperience leading a teamExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience overseeing design strategy and collaborating with graphic designersAbility to manage multiple stakeholders and to work with diverse teamsAbility to prioritize and meet tight deadlinesExperience working with donors, non-profits, fund-raising groups, or similarSelected applicants will be required to provide a portfolio
