We have an exciting opportunity for a Make-Up Artist to join the team in Washington. You'll create looks and hairstyles for on-air talent to meet the requirements of the make-up designer, ensuring that make-up and hairstyles are both technically accurate and aesthetically creative.
Main Responsibilities
Communicate with colleagues and on-air talent on day-to-day issues with makeup, suggesting solutions and actions where needed.Demonstrate awareness of the financial/budgetary implications of the materials required for creating specific looks.Read scripts to develop an understanding of the materials required for productions, anticipating any potential issues.Produce and sketch design ideas for hairstyles and make-up.Ensure continuity in hair and make-up, collaborating and communicating with others to ensure the overall look is professional, consistent and coherent.Act to resolve or minimise unpleasant side effects occurring from the application of specialist make up or hairdressing techniques.Source, budget and order materials from specialist suppliers.Cut and style hair in line with style guidelines on the production.Are you the right candidate?
Essential
Qualifications in Media Make-Up and Hairdressing, or equivalent experienceAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.Ability to interpret and break-down a script.Experience of both make-up and hairdressing, with an understanding of the various roles in design and production teams.Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of the principles, practices and craft skills applicable to make-up and hair.Able to deal with all colleagues with diplomacy and tact (including actors and supporting artists).Ability to work as part of a team, clearly and concisely communicating information and effectively organising work.Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and procedures.Expected to have own basic kit.Creative problem-solving skills, flexibility and keen eye for detail.Demonstrate a practical understanding of lighting, the photographic process and colours.Desirable
Good IT skills.Experience of working in a theatre or wig makers.Experience in the use of prosthetics.Understanding of the freelance nature and structure of the industry.
