Communications Associate University of California Los Angeles Budgeted Pay Scale: $30.56 - $35.92 Hourly Full Salary Range: USD $30.56/Hr. - USD $60.82/Hr. Special Instructions to Applicants This is a hybrid eligible position with approximately 2 days/ week in office. This is a one-year contract with the possibility of extension. Department Summary The Williams Institute, a national research center on sexual orientation and gender identity law and policy at UCLA School of Law, seeks an experienced and energetic communications professional with a passion for advancing the mission of the Institute. Under the general direction of the Communications Director and members of the Williams Institute Senior Management Team, the Communications Associate provides communications assistance on behalf of the Williams Institute. Position Summary The Communications Associate will help to develop, plan, execute, maintain, and measure the results of the Institute's comprehensive communications strategy. The role includes increasing visibility, awareness, and engagement in the Institute's research, events, and staff through various platforms such as print and digital media, social media, newsletters, and the website. The Associate will translate research into easily accessible content for lay audiences and create high-quality content that showcases the Institute's scientific rigor. The Associate will also be responsible for responsible for the administration, maintenance, and content management of the website. In addition, the Associate will help to develop, foster, and maintain relationships with collaborators and key stakeholders and assist the Communications Director with other projects as necessary. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience in communications, public relations, or media, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required) Excellent verbal and written communication skills. (Required) Experience working on a variety of social media platforms. (Required) Proficient MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills. (Required) Interest in the social and legal issues impacting the LGBTQ community. (Required) Demonstrated experience working with senior-level staff on organizationally complex projects. (Required) Strong reading comprehension, including the ability to translate complex research for broad audiences. (Required) Superb editing and proofreading skills, including the ability to identify and correct errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. (Required) Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team structure. (Required) Versatility, flexibility, and an ability to work creatively within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm. (Required) Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. (Preferred) Experience with website content management system, such as WordPress or Drupal (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
