Bloomberg Digital is looking for a New York-based editor to commission and edit news explainers. You will focus on content related to the US and the rest of the Americas, but as part of a small, global team, your work will touch other regions as well.The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist with a passion for explaining the context behind news stories. In this role you should be curious about a wide range of topics including business, finance, markets, economics and technology — as well as the environment, health, politics, government and culture. Comfort with a highly collaborative and innovative setting is a must.

We'll trust you to:Have excellent news judgment, a sense of urgency on breaking news, and a strong understanding of what makes a story suitable for Bloomberg.Continually generate new ideas for explainers — both big and small — get them assigned, and move them from conception to publication expeditiously.Be able to keep long-term projects advancing while also regularly publishing short-term projects.Be a great wordsmith, writing strong copy and compelling display language to sell the story.Be a careful editor, ensuring text is logically organized; language is clear and precise; jargon, repetition and opinion are excised; and style, grammar and punctuation are correct.Have a strong BS detector.Be imaginative about a story’s presentation.Find ways to turn newsroom colleagues into regular collaborators.Work with colleagues on other platforms — for example, video, audio and magazines — to adapt and expand text explainers to their purposes.Use audience data to inform the topics we explain and analyze how pieces resonate with readers.Collaborate effectively across the team, the newsroom and platforms, conducting yourself honestly, professionally and collegially.You'll need to have:Bachelor’s degree or degree-equivalent qualificationsAt least three years of similar editing experience in a news organizationExperience using web publishing toolsA flair for editing copy into standout textThe ability to distinguish authoritative sources, to research a topic thoroughly, and to fairly present both sides of an argumentA proven record as a team player who collaborates easily and effectivelyFluency in both written and spoken EnglishDemonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
