Social Media Specialist II - Women's Sports

ESPN is seeking a Social Media Specialist II who will work in a hybrid editor/producer role that involves creative ideation, news judgment, copyediting, Photoshop, and video editing skills. The ideal candidate is someone who loves sports, thrives in a team environment and a desire for learning. This is an incredible time to be a part of the growth of women’s sports and we’re looking for someone who is locked in on a wide range of sports and the culture surrounding them. From editing video of a gymnastics meet for ESPN TikTok, to brainstorming content for a statistical milestone in the NWSL, to capturing content courtside of an WNBA game – we’re looking for a proactive and innovative content creator. Responsibilities : Performs a wide variety of tasks to assist in shaping, creating, and distributing social content for sports fans across TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat. Ideates, creates, and posts content of various women’s sports on ESPN to drive audience growth and engagement, inclusive but not limited to: women’s basketball, women’s soccer, gymnastics, college softball and volleyball, tennis, and track and field. Actively explores user generated content opportunities to tap into new trends and reach new audiences. Generates new ideas for building account engagement and growth across all platforms and accounts, with a special emphasis on the espnW brand Supports senior-level colleagues to lead priority events and plan for milestones (ex: WNBA Free Agency, March Madness, athlete/teams breaking records), inclusive of research, leading brainstorms, and collaborating with the social creative team to design content. Uses social data to inform content decisions on a daily basis. Follows ESPN Social standards of practice including an adherence to news and reporting guidelines. Note that sports happen on nights and weekends and those shifts will be regular and required in this position. We’re looking for someone who embraces working in the live window, reacting and creating content in real time. Qualifications : Minimum of 2 years’ experience in social media or a closely related field Fundamental content creation skills in social media writing, photo editing, and video editing Sound knowledge of the sports landscape, including current athletes, rules, events, and ESPN programming Understands how to connect with and grow an audiences of women’s sports fans across all sports, taking into account elements like voice and representation that are uniquely important to female fans and athletes Understanding of internet pop culture’s intersection with sports Demonstrated communication and organization skills Preferred Qualifications : Demonstrated news judgement Experience using video editing software (e.g. Final Cut, Premiere) Experience using photo editing software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) Required Education : High School Diploma Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Journalism, Communications, Media or related field ESPNMedia The hiring range for this position in New York is $66,420 - $89,100 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
