Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Design Director to lead our dynamic design team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in architecture and design, a passion for mentoring, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively. As the Design Director, you will oversee all aspects of the design process, ensure the highest standards of creativity and quality, and contribute to the overall strategic vision of our company.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities Related to Internal Design Team:

Leadership and Mentorship:

Lead and inspire the design team, providing mentorship and fostering a creative environment that encourages innovation and professional growth.

Design Process Oversight:

Oversee the entire design process from concept development to final delivery, ensuring projects meet both client expectations and company standards.

Team Structure and Coordination:

Establish the team structure for each project from award to completion, coordinating all required consultants and internal resources.

Project Management:

Create and maintain a comprehensive project log/tracker for all design projects, outlining timelines and scheduling to ensure efficient workflow and delivery.

Meetings and Communication:

Conduct weekly internal meetings to track and update project status, and facilitate clear communication across all team members.

Training and Development:

Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for the design team to enhance skills and stay current with industry trends.

Administrative Oversight:

Review and approve design team timesheets, evaluate team performance annually and/or semi-annually, and manage the hiring process for new team members, including drafting job descriptions and conducting interviews.

Feasibility Studies:

Conduct feasibility studies for potential projects, providing critical insights and recommendations.

Resource Management:

Provide research and development resources, including software tools, books, and educational materials to support the team’s growth and project needs.

Other Responsibilities:

Client Relations:

Conduct regular meetings with clients, manage client expectations effectively, and set up and participate in meetings with potential clients, including on-site job meetings.

Strategic Planning:

Hold quarterly meetings to review and refine the design team’s strategy, vision, and roadmap to align with overall company goals.

Collaboration:

Attend weekly administrative meetings with other team directors to ensure cohesive management and strategy alignment across all departments.

Financial Oversight:

Handle design team payments, billing, and accounting, including client payment schedules and follow-up to ensure timely transactions.

Legal and Compliance:

Oversee legal matters and agreements related to the design team, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Process Improvement:

Review, update, and refine feasibility study procedures and outcomes, and develop comprehensive process documents for each aspect of the design team, including HR, R&D, and project management.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Design, or a related field.

A minimum of 10 years of experience in architectural design and project management.

Proven leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring a design team.

Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent communication and client management skills.

Proficiency in design software and tools relevant to the industry.

Strong understanding of municipal codes and regulations.

Experience in business development and networking within the industry.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
