ExemptFull benefits offered, PERS with a 6% match, AD&D and LTD.Position Summary:The Director of Communication and Human Relations works directly with parents, administrators, community members, and staff to address complaints, grievances, and concerns. The director also serves as a spokesman for the district managing communication for emergency and other communication needs. The director provides administrative leadership for critical, short-term, and long-term projects assigned by the superintendent or designee.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEssential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.Assists staff in the preparation or editing of reports, correspondence, speeches, and other communications.Supports schools and departments with media relations, communications, and support.Writes press releases as assigned by the Superintendent or his or her staff.Supports staff during emergencies, working closely with others in the district's incident command to disseminate accurate information in a timely fashion.Ensures the District is appropriately represented as a community partner in communications and events.Constructs and oversees methods of collecting information about the District from parents, students, community members, and other educational organizations.Ensures fair and consistent administration of district policies and regulations with complaints.Assists in conducting and/or directing personnel investigations, employee discipline, and assists with administering grievance procedures.Develops, administers, monitors, and coordinates assigned budgets.Assists administrators and supervisors in resolving human resources problems.Assists in resolving Title IX complaints.Coordinates volunteers for the District.Attends School Board meetings.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:Hold a current TSPC Teaching License.Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, Master’s Degree in Education or related field.Holds a TSPC Teaching License with 3 years of successful teaching experience preferred.Holds a TSPC Professional Administrator license with 2 years of successful administrator experience preferred or able to obtain prior to the first day of employment.At least five (5) years of administrative experience.Knowledge of conducting investigations.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Strong technology skills (i.e. Video Production, Social Media, Communication Platforms, etc).Supervisory Responsibilities:Directly supervise assigned employees in the Human Resources Department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable laws.Terms of Employment:Employed by Superintendent’s recommendation and ratified by the Board. An At-Will employee whose salary is contingent upon the Board adopted Administrator Pay Schedule. Normal work year is 260 days with 9 holidays.Physical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when workload requires.Work Environment:The Director of Communications and Human Relations will work beyond an eight-hour day and a five-day week to complete daily work, and attend meetings, conferences, and district/school activities. The Director must have excellent communication, problem-solving, and small-group process skills. A substantial portion of the work will involve conflict management and sensitive situations with staff, parents, and patrons. Confidentiality is crucial. Workloads are heavy and timelines can be unreasonably short. Requests and issues are often received which require immediate attention and conflict with other priorities.The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
