Job Summary:Mechanical engineers bring the power to Primus projects. This is equally a design and project management role. In addition to producing accurate and timely technical designs in a traditional plan and spec format, engineers are expected to work in a team approach to deliver solutions. PE is required.

General Duties: Design EmphasisHVACSystem selection and detailed designCooling load calculations, ammonia refrigeration room ventilation, battery charging rooms, office space, truck maintenance facilities, warehouse heating and ventilation, etc.

PlumbingSystem design and specificationDomestic cold and hot water, sanitary, waste and vent, acid waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas piping, etc.

Fire ProtectionCriteria documents for sprinkler systemsCoordination with project insurance underwritersFire tanks, fire pumps, wet sprinkler systems, dry systems, double interlock, quell, ESFR, etc.

Process PipingDetailed piping connections to equipmentCompressed air systems, nitrogen, steam and condensate return, chilled water, hot water, deionized water, water softeners, lubrication systems (grease, oil, antifreeze), etc.

Planning and Proposal PhaseConceptualize and document project mechanical systems (fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, process piping) in preliminary drawings and outline specificationsCollaborate with the design and construction management team to select and steer differing project scope ideas and communicate probable impacts for decision-makingParticipate in final proposal preparation as necessary

Detailed Design PhasePerform engineering calculations, select and apply equipmentPrepare Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents packagesCoordinate with all members of design teamIdentify early and advise team of scope creep

Construction PhaseAnswer field requests for informationCollaborate in the Value Engineering processReview mechanical submittals for complianceAttend periodic field reviews and meetingsPrepare final record documentation

Qualifications and Skills:Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering TechnologyApproachable, helpful and positiveSelf-starter and inquisitiveAbility to advance designs with minimal oversightFamiliarity with codes and standards related to building design and constructionEffective verbal communication and coordination skillsAbility to produce mechanical designs at a computer 8 hours a dayConcise and accurate technical writing skillsAutoCAD - thorough proficiency requiredRevit MEP - basic proficiency required. Enthusiastic willingness to learn and advance our use of this valuable tool in our presentations and designs.Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
