Position Type: Middle School Teaching/Art Date Posted: 7/13/2023 Location: Southampton Middle School Position Title: Middle School Art Teacher Location: Southampton County Public Schools Reports To: Principal Job Summary: The Middle School Art Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in visual arts to middle school students, fostering creativity, artistic skills, and appreciation for the arts. This role involves developing and delivering engaging art lessons, assessing student progress, and creating a supportive and inspiring classroom environment. Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Planning and Delivery:

Develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum that aligns with state and national standards. Provide instruction in various art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and mixed media. Utilize a variety of teaching methods and materials to engage students and enhance their artistic skills and creativity.

Student Engagement and Assessment:

Create an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages students to explore and express their creativity. Assess and evaluate student performance through projects, presentations, and critiques. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their artistic development and address areas for improvement.

Curriculum Development and Professional Development:

Develop and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and resources to enhance the art curriculum. Stay current with advancements in art education, techniques, and trends through professional development opportunities. Incorporate new trends, tools, and techniques into the curriculum to provide relevant and engaging learning experiences.

Classroom Management and Art Studio Maintenance:

Create and maintain a positive and organized art classroom environment. Manage art supplies, equipment, and materials, ensuring they are well-organized and in good condition. Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols for art activities and studio use.

Student Art Exhibitions and Projects:

Organize and oversee student art exhibitions, displays, and school-wide art events. Encourage students to participate in art competitions, fairs, and community art projects. Foster a sense of pride and accomplishment in students' artistic achievements.

Parent and Community Engagement:

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement. Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and other events to build strong relationships with families. Engage with the community to promote art education and involve students in community art initiatives.

Administrative Tasks:

Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and other necessary documentation. Prepare and submit reports, lesson plans, and other required paperwork in a timely manner. Manage budgetary needs for art materials and resources, ensuring efficient use of funds.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field. Valid state teaching certification in Art Education or secondary education. Previous experience teaching art at the middle school level preferred. Strong knowledge of artistic techniques, art history, and art education principles. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents. Proficiency in using art materials, tools, and technology. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods. Capacity to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of art supplies and materials. Ability to perform tasks involving manual labor, such as setting up art displays and managing classroom supplies. Work Environment: Work is performed in an art classroom and studio setting. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for art exhibitions, school events, and professional development.
