Job Description

Performs specialized maritime dispatch, assists in port operational procedures, and serves as the public contact point for the Port Security Communications Center at Port Canaveral. Work involves responsibility for non-emergency calls, dispatching calls for service using the 800 MHz radio system, taking telephone messages, monitoring, replay, and making recordings using surveillance camera system during maritime incidents or investigation. Responsibilities include monitoring alarms, entrapment notifications and documenting all incidents; including calls for service; through the Computer Aided Dispatch System. Use of NCIC/FCIC, use of License Plate Reader system. Must be able to multitask, ex: answer telephone calls, communicate using a radio while simultaneously entering the calls for service.Position Duties

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Answers/responds to administrative phones, other communications devices, and citizen requests; decides on appropriate courses of action, dispatches assistance as required, or refers to appropriate service agency.Provide courteous service to the Port employees, tenants, and visitors. Aids and assists the public with general information.Receives and takes messages.Maintains required logs and related records.Receives and accurately registers complaints in Computer Aided Dispatch System.Assists deputy sheriff's, maritime security officers and other department personnel within the means provided in the Port Security Communications Center.Directs media to the proper authority.Submits written reports when required.Operates FCIC/NCIC Computer.Utilizes specialized computer systems to monitor the Port Canaveral's Surveillance camera system for security violations, unusual situation, hazardous conditions, and traffic congestion problems.Communicate clearly and concisely via radio, telephone and computer.Operates a variety of office equipment and machines.Make appropriate notifications of events or incidents in accordance with Department policy and Federal and State regulations.Interpret maps and provide clear/accurate directions.Monitors alarms in the Security Communications Center (cameras, doors, generator alarms, etc.)Performs other duties as assigned.Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. General office experience in emergency services.Employees must obtain CJIS Basic Certification within six (6) months of hire (certification must be maintained for the duration of employment).

Work is performed in a secure office environment.

Employees must be able to work 6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. with rotating weekends off. Employees may be subject to report to work on short notice or work extended workdays and hours to meet operational needs or in the event of an emergency event.

During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.

Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
