GIS Designer

Selectek has a client in the telecommunications field with a great opportunity for a GIS Designer.  The focus of the role will be to design detailed conduit designs within a fiber network.General Duties / Key Responsibilities:
Utilize QGIS, ArcGIS, and other GIS tools to create FTTX designs.Learn new tools and methods to aid with design and cross function between multiple markets with various customers.Analyze network demand point data to create the most effective design.Review permitting prints as needed for various designs in the permitting stage and give feedback as related to design to minimize changes that might be costly or difficult.Provide exemplary project communication and adhere to project/jurisdictional requirements.Maintain a robust quality control/assurance process to include but not limited to: Completing validation checks and QA/QC of fiber designs.Design Fiber to the Home, backhaul/transport fiber routes, MDU, distribution/feeder design using provided design software and methods.Functionally understand easements, right-of-ways, aerial plant, and buried plant to aid in the design process.The ability to read and understand maps, plats, as-builts, construction drawings and utility records is highly desirable.Perform any/all duties related to conduit designs within a fiber network that may be required for project(s).
Senior GIS Designer  (In addition to the General Duties / Key Responsibilities above)
Perform Quality Assurance on other Designers work.Displays an in-depth understanding of Fiber Architecture.Takes ownership of special projects with limited supervision.Supports Lead Designers in the training of new hires or lower-level Designers.
Lead GIS Designer  (In addition to the General Duties / Key Responsibilities above)
Responsible for ensuring the timely completion and delivery of projects.Supervise and provide performance feedback to Designers.Make recommendations regarding process improvements and training opportunities.Responsible for training new hires or lower-level Designers.
Required Job Qualifications:GIS Designer
1-2 years of related experience1 or more years of experience with GIS based systems.
QGIS, ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS, AGOL, OSPInsight, IQGEO, 3GIS or other GIS based systems (preference will be placed on direct QGIS experience)
Senior GIS Designer
2-4 years of related experience1-2 years of telecom experiencePreferred: Trained and knowledgeable in fiber optic network design.
Lead GIS Designer
4-7 years of related experience3 or more years telecom experiencePreferred: Trained and knowledgeable in fiber optic network design
Selectek is also looking for a Fiber Designer. We asked for clarification on the difference in the two roles and were told this:For Fiber, they really need to have fiber design experience. For the GIS role, they need GIS experience, but if they have fiber experience as well that would be more of a perk.Job order details:Design detailed conduit designs within a fiber networkSponsorship: No, must be US Citizen or Green Card holderPay range: $24/hour - $32/hour (pay depends on experience and education level)Term of assignment: 6 Months Temp to DirectPay method when direct: Hourly eligible for OT payLocation of job: Overland Park, KS 66210Hours and shift: Monday – Friday; flexible start time 8 hours a dayWork from home: Yes, employees will be expected to work within the office during the first 6 months or so while they are training and learning about the company. Once the employee is up and running at 6 months at the expected rate (meeting quotas), they will have the option to work from home or a mix of home and office. They do need to know that there will still be times or circumstances where they will be required to come into the office so they will need to still be in the Greater KC Area.Working remote: No, they want them to be local and able to come into the office when needed.Overtime expected:  NoTravel: Very minimalWork attire: Casual.
