The Director of Marketing and Membership is primarily responsible for driving the strategic, tactical, and administrative functions of the American Mathematical Society's marketing and membership activities. This includes defining and identifying the society's multiple audiences, the organization's value proposition for each audience, and the best strategies to encourage those audiences to develop a deeper relationship with the AMS. Leveraging data to inform decision-making and approaches, this role will collaborate with other departments to implement strategies to grow and retain a diverse and active membership base, enhance member value, and increase the visibility and impact of the organization.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:MarketingDevelop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to promote the organization's mission, programs, and events.Oversee the creation and distribution of marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, and digital content.Manage the organization's online presence, including website, social media, and email marketing.Analyze market trends and data to inform marketing strategies and campaigns.Collaborate with internal departments, such as the Communications Department, to ensure cohesive messaging and branding.Membership Engagement, Growth and RetentionDesign and implement strategies to recruit and retain AMS members, both individual and institutionalCreate and manage programs and initiatives to enhance member engagement and participation.Develop and oversee member communication strategies, including newsletters, social media, and other digital channels.Organize and manage member meetings, webinars, and networking opportunities to foster a sense of community and provide value to members.Develop and implement strategies to increase membership numbers and diversity.Design and execute retention strategies to maintain high member satisfaction and loyalty.Analyze membership data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for growth and improvement.Leadership and ManagementLead, mentor, and manage the marketing and membership team, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.Collaborate with other AMS departments to ensure a cohesive approach to member services and marketing efforts.Provide staff support and serve as a liaison on certain AMS governance committees.Work with volunteer leaders and committees to align activities with the organization's mission and strategic objectives.Data and AnalyticsMonitor and analyze marketing and membership metrics and KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and programs.Prepare regular reports and presentations for the leadership team and board members on marketing and membership trends and performance.Utilize data to inform decision-making and strategy development.Budget and Financial ManagementDevelop and manage the marketing and membership department budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.Identify and pursue opportunities for revenue generation through membership dues, sponsorships, and other initiatives, in collaboration with other colleagues and departments, as necessary.Strategic PlanningContribute to the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan, with a focus on marketing, membership growth, and engagement.Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in marketing and membership development and apply this knowledge to enhance the organization's programs.INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:Internal: Report to Chief External Relations Officer; work with staff in other departments to plan and implement membership recruitment and retention strategies; cooperate with staff in other departments on relevant projectsExternal: Work with relevant AMS committees and officers on membership issues; communicate with AMS members and representatives of other organizationsSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This role supervises the marketing and membership team.QUALIFICATIONS:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, nonprofit management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in marketing and/or membership management, preferably within a nonprofit or association setting.Proven track record of successful marketing campaigns and membership growth strategies.Strong leadership and team management skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to analyze data and make strategic decisions based on insights.Ability to conceptualize surveys and make informed decisions based on the results.Proficiency in marketing and membership management software and CRM systems.Knowledge of marketing and communication strategies.Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders.ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES:
