About the Role

The primary duty of a Bonhams Skinner Specialist is to grow new business opportunities to expand our markets. Specialists generate consignments, appraise, research, authenticate, and cataloguing works of art for auction. They also lead in marketing upcoming works to potential bidders.

What you will be doingBuilding the department's business getting.Negotiating and procuring consignments.Presenting auction evaluations and writing formal appraisals.Research, authenticate, and catalogue works of art for auction.Liaise with consignors and buyers regarding all aspects of the auction process.Work with all departments including Warehouse, Photography, and Marketing to best present Fine Art auctions to a broad public.Key Skills & Attributes

Deep knowledge of European Art from Old Masters through the 20th century, as well as a broad knowledge of Western art from various cultures and periods.Minimum 5 years experience: Master's degree in art history or equivalent market experience specializing in the appraisal, researching, and marketing of fine art. Or both.Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and within a team with flexibility and creativity in a fast-paced environment.Strong organizational, communication, and people skills (including a great sense of humor).Reading knowledge of French, German, and/or Italian would be helpful. • USPAP certification also a plus.In addition to an active and progressive work environment, Bonhams offers a competitive benefits package to encourage work/life balance, including:
