Department SummaryThe Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a unique residential program for high school-aged Texas students who are high achievers and interested in mathematics and science. While living on campus in McConnell Hall, students in this two-year program complete a rigorous academic curriculum of college coursework at the University of North Texas (UNT). Instruction is by university faculty. There are no high school courses taught, but students enjoy many of the activities of high school and the company of age mates who are intellectual peers.

The Honors College is dedicated to enriching the undergraduate academic experience for the more than 2,000 talented, motivated, and well-prepared students who choose to be members. The goal of the Honors College is to help these students build an excellent foundation that prepares them for studying at the graduate level and establishing a fulfilling career.Position OverviewThe Director of Events & Marketing for the Honors College and TAMS organizes, plans, and executes departmental and college events in conjunction with staff members from relevant areas. The position reviews, edits, and monitors communication and marketing efforts which represent the Honors College and TAMS.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in related field and three years' of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of University operations, policies and procedures, as well as state regulatory guidelines and mandates.Some knowledge and skill related to computer software, applications, and programming, including: Adobe Creative Suite, Qualtrics, TracDat, Microsoft Office, EventsPro, Drupal, Basic Coding, or similar software etc.Knowledge of fiscal management and ability to develop and manage event related budgets. Excellent written and oral communications skills.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.Ability to work on call during events including nights and weekends.Ability to work effectively in a high stress people-oriented environment.Preferred QualificationsNoneRequired License/Registration/CertificationsNoneJob Duties:Plan departmental and student events and receptions for the Honors College and TAMS in conjunction with staff members from relevant areas.Coordinate event aspects of University Scholars Day. Cooperate with other committee members in Coordinating this university wide event so that event is well organized and runs smoothly.Coordinate Phi Kappa Phi New Member Initiation and serves as the PKP liaison for the University.Serve as branding resource person for the Honors College and TAMS. Continue educational opportunities for new branding standards and advise others in office as needed.Enhance and enlarge the image of TAMS and the Honors College within UNT and broader community Represent College at local community events and clubs.Serve as liaison for College with URCM Meet on joint efforts, suggestions for stories/features, coordinate efforts to recommend students to serve as representatives of the Honors College; sharing information regarding the Honors College and TAMS.Serve as PR representative for invitations to donors/guests to university wide events. Contact donors and guests to invite them to university wide events at the request of the dean.Serve as member of committee on retention efforts Research and suggest trending efforts to retain members in the Honors college.Serve as staff representative for Golden Key Honor Society. Represent the College standards while meeting requirements for staff representative of student run organization.Carry out all tasks appropriate to position in the Honors College and TAMS, even if not specifically listed herein. Serve as member of team to make sure tasks and responsibilities of unit are fulfilled.
