Job Description Summary

The TWDB's award-winning Agency Communications team is seeking an exceptionally detail oriented, creative, and high-performing graphic designer to join our collaborative team. This person will perform highly complex (senior-level) graphic and multi-media design, production, and consultation work for the agency and Communications team. Work involves using computer software to design and produce graphics for print materials, social media, and occasionally websites. May train others and will work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Creative Services Team is part of the Agency Communications Team and includes two other graphic designers, one being the team lead. This person will report to the Chief Communications Officer.

Essential Job Functions

Designs and produces graphics using Adobe Creative Cloud software. Work may include newsletters, brochures, social media graphics, presentations, maps, infographics, report covers, exhibit display banners, and more.Coordinates graphic and/or multimedia design needs with agency staff.Provides advice on technical graphics.Presents mockups, proofs, and samples to requestors for approval.May design and/or revise long documents, such as reports.Cross-trained to serve as backup operator for agency's large Xerox copier to produce reports and miscellaneous materials and comb bind reports as needed.Analyzes content for accessibility.Recommends changes to make content accessible, and remediates accessibility issues.Utilizes Windows PC.Serves as liaison to vendors for print and design-related projects.Reviews and approves production proofs.Helps prepare and maintain operating and production procedures.Helps maintain photo database and archive of electronic production files.Maintains confidential and sensitive information.Ensures individual and team files (electronic and hard versions) are appropriately maintained and timely disposed of in accordance with the agency's records retention procedures and schedule.Maintains required certifications and licenses and meets the continuing education needs and requirements of the position to include, attending mandatory training courses.May be required to operate a state or personal vehicle for business purposes.Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Communication Design, Fine Arts, Graphics Design, or a related field.Five years of work experience in graphic design for print using the following programs: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, and/or Photoshop.A copy of or link to applicant's portfolio is required upon applying for this position.Relevant education and experience can be substituted for each other on a year-for-year basis.Preferred Qualifications

Seven or more years of graphic design experience using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, and/or Photoshop software.Experience with animation and infographics.Experience with After Effects, Adobe Express, Canto, Teams, and Sharepoint.Experience creating and revising long documents.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the Agency Communications Division.Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration.Knowledge of graphic design principles for print.Knowledge of printing process.Knowledge of computer-based design workstations and their design capabilities.Knowledge of non-computer-based and new media graphics production methods, techniques, and equipment.Knowledge of design principles.Knowledge of printing processes.Skills in using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.Skills in use of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software.Skills in the use of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Illustrator.Skills in creating files that meet accessibility requirements.Ability to work with Creative Services Team Lead to execute the team's vision and design.Ability to organize project files according to division standards.Ability to document processes.Ability to plan the preparation of graphic design projects, to design and produce graphics and interactive media materials, and to communicate effectively.Ability to adhere to work schedules, follow procedures with respect to leave, and submit accurate timesheets by prescribed deadlines.Ability to make mature, objective decisions and identify areas of potential problems.Ability to perform effectively and willingly when changes occur in scope and nature of the work and work environment.Ability to perform routine and non-routine work assignments accurately and on-time with little or no supervision.Ability to perform assigned duties and improve work habits and/or output.Ability to complete assigned work, on time, neatly and with infrequent errors.Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.Ability to provide prompt, courteous and accurate assistance and clear and concise communication to internal and external stakeholders both verbally and in writing.Ability to work and cooperate with others in a team environment.Ability to manage multiple tasks.Ability to stand/sit/move to perform activities such as retrieve/replace files in a large file system for boxes up to 30 lbs.Ability and willingness to travel 5% of the time, primarily within the State of Texas.Ability to operate a vehicle (state or personal) for state business and maintain a driver's license and driving record that complies with state and agency requirements.Ability to work shifts that may exceed 8 hours, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.Ability to train others.REMARKS
