Job TitleJunior Graphic Designer

Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Creative Services and Graphic Designer, and in partnership with the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications, the Junior Graphic Designer works on a wide variety of creative projects to support John Carroll University's branding efforts and to help John Carroll's internal clients connect with key University audiences. Primary target audiences include prospective students, alumni, and the wider JCU campus community.

The Jr. Graphic Designer collaborates with the Graphic Designers and supports the entire Integrated Marketing and Communications team to create digital and print designs, and dynamic web pages that push creative boundaries to further the mission of John Carroll University.

Typical creative projects include designing for print (ads, brochures, postcards, posters, invitations, event materials) and web (email design, homepage, landing pages, other webpages, digital advertising, social media campaigns).

Duties and ResponsibilitiesBring the John Carroll University brand and identity to life by upholding and refining the visual identity for the school and its departments, creating graphic collateral that supports communications and marketing to students, families, alumni, staff and faculty. This role ensures that JCU's visual presence is clear, compelling, creative and consistent across all channels.Conceptualize and design creative graphics and content pieces that enhance student or alumni-facing collateral for JCU. Can include logos, infographics, print pieces, presentations, web assets, email templates for communications flow and more.Help develop visual standards and toolkits for JCU and its departments.Assist with project management of multiple projects, on time, and with strong attention to detailSupport the IMC team as needed, attend campus events, build relationships with key stakeholders, faculty and departments across campus.Stay current with industry standards and design trends, as well as industry tools, issues, and best practices.Collaborates and contributes to groupthink and planning as it pertains to marketing John Carroll University.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).Strong Portfolio showcasing design projects (academic, freelance, or internship work).Understanding of Typography, Layout, and Color Theory.Excellent Communication and Collaboration Skills.Attention to Detail and Time Management Abilities.Willingness to Learn and Adapt to new tools/programs and design trends.Experience in Preparing Files for Print with attention to color accuracy and resolution.Familiarity with Google Suite, especially Google Slides for creating presentations.Familiarity with or Experience in Illustration.Experience Working in an Omni-Channel Environment, ensuring brand consistency across all platforms (e.g., digital, print, social media).Experience with Photography: Basic knowledge of photography, photo editing, and using photos in design.Ability to Follow Direction from Supervisors and Project Managers to maintain alignment with project goals and objectives.Strong understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and creating an inclusive campus environment.Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll's mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Motion Graphics or video editing tools like After Effects/Adobe Premiere.Understanding of University Branding and experience working in an academic or educational environment.Ability to Work Independently and take initiative on projects.Experience with Collaboration Tools: Familiarity with tools like Slack, Miro, or Microsoft Teams for team collaboration.Knowledge of Print Production Processes: Experience with printing techniques, materials, and working with vendors.Experience Designing for Large-Scale Formats, such as wall wraps, billboards, and other extensive print or digital media.Experience in Email Design within a CRMExperience Designing for Web: Basic knowledge of web design best practices and responsive design principles.Experience working at a university or other educational environment.Knowledge of Slate.

Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions

This position works in person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. This position will require occasional work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on department operations.

Physical Requirements

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting salary will be $17.20 - $22.00 per hour, commensurate with qualifications.
