Responsibilities

THIS POSITION IS HYBRID

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Manager, Health Promotion Initiatives is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of campus wide health promotion programs in assigned topic areas that impact student well-being and support the academic success of University of Rochester students. Uses population-based data and evidence-informed practices to direct health promotion initiatives. Leads signature health promotion events as assigned. Collects, analyzes, and reports program evaluation data to university stakeholders. Participates in strategic planning for the department.

Works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff throughout the University to strategize and build coalition. Advocates for policies that support campus and community health. Participates in University committees related to health and well-being. Co-directs the Peer Health Advocate team. Supervises undergraduate and graduate students.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Health Equity:

* Strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion initiatives on the topic of health equity.* Through an understanding of how social determinants shape health status, develop progressive programs, initiatives, and resources which create health equity for marginalized and underrepresented students on campus.* Incorporate social justice concepts and principles into health promotion processes provided by the HPO.* Specific programmatic duties include but are not limited to directing the UHS Safe Zone Training Program, the LGBTQ+ Resource Fair, the First-Generation Student well-being initiative, and the UHS Inclusive Health Resource Guide.* Sit on the UHS DEI Committee and mentor the UR Student Health Advisory Committee DEI Chairs.* Assure all materials published and distributed by the HPO are accessible.* Conduct ongoing internal and external research and benchmarking to continually improve our commitment to health equity.

Sexual Health & Healthy Relationships

* Strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion initiatives on the topic of sexual health & healthy relationships.* Provide robust health promotion programming in the areas of STD / STI and pregnancy prevention, birth control, sexual pleasure, LGBTQ+ sexual health, and healthy platonic / romantic / sexual relationships.* Specific programmatic duties include but are not limited to directing the Safe Sex Express service, STI testing clinics, Sexperts educational program, and the Sex & Chocolate Carnival.* Conduct ongoing internal and external research and benchmarking to continually improve programs.

Peer Health Advocate Program

* Co-direct the Peer Health Advocate (PHA) program. Directly oversee a team of 4-6 PHAs and 1-2 Senior PHAs.* Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of all students in the program.* Develop, plan, and execute a multi-day training and orientation session each fall.* Set work priorities and approve time records. Provide ongoing guidance, direction, feedback, and support to the PHA team as they perform peer education and outreach programs throughout the academic year.

Eastman Student Well-being:

* Strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion initiatives for students at the Eastman School of Music.* In collaboration with content experts within the Eastman School. provide robust health promotion programming in the areas of musician wellness, injury prevention, and hearing preservation.* Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and supervision of graduate assistants.* Conduct ongoing internal and external research and benchmarking to continually improve programs.

Assessment and Evaluation:

* Direct the creation and implementation of a variety of assessment efforts to drive programming efforts in the assigned topic areas.* Responsible for the data analysis, preparation of reports, and presentation of findings to key stakeholders.* Present findings at regional and national conferences and / or publish in peer-reviewed journals when applicable.

Committees / Continuing Education:

* Attend numerous University committees as assigned, including the UHS Employee Wellness Committee, the Standing Committee on Alcohol Policy and Education [SCAPE] Committee, and the Student Activities Committee.* Actively participate in professional organizations related to the field of college health promotion.* Attend in-person and online continuing education training sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

* Bachelor's degree in public health, health promotion, health policy, or health education, or equivalent education in related field required.* Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health policy, or health education, or equivalent education in related field preferred.* 1 year of related work experience in the field of health promotion, preferably in a college or university setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.* Demonstrated experience in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion required.* Ability to conceptualize health promotion in the context of higher education required.* Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion, behavior change, and population-based theories and models. Familiarity with social marketing and health communications strategies required.* Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-informed health promotion programs/initiatives required.* Willingness and flexibility to gain knowledge of, develop expertise in, and design and implement health promotion programs on a variety of key health issues based on needs assessment results required.* Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, social justice, and cultural competence and the ability to work in a multicultural environment required.* Supervisory skills to effectively manage student staff or volunteers required.* Proficient in a variety of computer software applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and statistical software) required.* Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks required.* Written/oral/interpersonal communication skills required.* Demonstrated experience using Canva, Mailchimp, Survey Monkey Word Press, and a variety of social media platforms a plus preferred.* Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), or ACHA's College Health & Wellness Professional (CHWP) designation strongly desired preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $26.90 - $37.66 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum annual salary for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job's salary range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
