Job Description We are looking for a Mechanical Designer for our Cedar Rapids, Iowa Engineering Design Center to provide the design and documentation support required for our miniature circuit breaker product families. Job Responsibilities Generate design proposals to suffice application and engineering requirements, including but not limited to 3D assemblies and new component designs. (molded plastic parts, springs, mechanisms, sheet metal parts, and insulators) Support Engineers with the analysis and resolution of problems using methodical problem-solving techniques (e.g. 5 Whys) and tools (e.g. Fishbone Diagram). Oversee development and maintenance of the product definition file: 3D component modeling 3D assembly creation 2D drawing creation BOM creation Work collaboratively on cross-functional teams to address quality, performance, and productivity objectives. Update Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA) documents to reflect product design changes. Utilize in-house prototyping build (3D Printing, etc.) and laboratories (CMM, 3D Scanning, etc.) to prove design concepts. Desired Qualifications Technical degree (AAS or BS) in a Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field. 4-5 years of relevant design experience in mechanical design - preferably in electromechanical field. Understand material properties, manufacturing processes and design best practices for plastic part design (thermoplastic & thermosets). Familiarity with design for manufacturing and assembly techniques. Training or experience in the following areas: Mechanical tolerances, analysis, and functional dimensioning. Drawing standards GD&T CAD modeling (CREO knowledge a plus) Expectations Must be self-motivated, team & customer-orientated, adaptable, and committed to setting and meeting deliverables. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Good interpersonal skills for teamwork as respect, courtesy and proactiveness. Able to work with multiple stakeholders.
