The Simon & Schuster Design and Digital Content Development team is hiring a desktop publishing assistant to help us make great books. The assistant will focus on conversions and backlist reprints.

Responsibilities include:

Making corrections to existing filesResizing files into new trim sizesReview and update older file assets to meet current design standards and guidelinesLogging and reviewing files for reprint requests, ensuring timely management of due dates and schedulesCreating reduction or enlargement samplesReviewing files for design consistency, page makeup, and compliance with in-house standards and preflight requirementsSending final files to print vendorsReviewing final proofs for compliance with provided production specs and industry-standard print guidelinesArchiving final interior title assets

The assistant should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and extremely organized. Because the job is deadline-sensitive, this person must be able to manage their time well.

Requirements

- Expert in Adobe InDesign

- Experienced with Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator

- Knows proofreader's marks

- Familiar with book composition standards

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
