Job Summary:

At Caterpillar's Denison, Texas facility, we manufacture and assemble Surface Rock Drills. In this role as a Value Chain Designer, you will report to the Manager Value Chain Engineering and will be primarily responsible for designing and implementing new processes or updates to existing processes to improve end to end value chain performance. You will develop a network value-stream model that depicts current state value chain network and may compare to alternate network configurations. As a member of the Value Chain Engineering team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:

* Analyzing the inbound, value add and outbound value chains to identify opportunities for improvement.

* Developing business cases and capability studies, recommending improvements to stakeholders.

* Implementing new and enhanced processes and tools and governing changes through collaboration across multiple workstreams to ensure alignment.

* Identifying process inefficiencies and wastes of time, money, materials, and energy.

What Skills you will have:

Business Process Design: Knowledge of business process design; ability to develop appropriate techniques to re-examine key processes and focus on optimizing organizational performance.

Level Working Knowledge:

* Carries out business process design tasks with some supervision and coaching.* Uses a variety of business process design tools and techniques.* Examines, interprets, and explains work-flow materials and documentation.* Documents common obstacles and barriers for effective implementation.* Analyzes a process and associated business logic and offers recommendations based on analysis.

Business Process Improvement: Knowledge of business process improvement best practices and ability to use methods for identifying, evaluating, introducing and implementing more efficient approaches to performing business related activities.

Level Extensive Experience:

* Analyzes business processes, identifies alternative solutions to outdated processes and assesses their feasibility.* Evaluates financial, cultural, technological and other factors that need to be addressed.* Recommends new approaches that seek the use of advanced technology.* Establishes requirements for large changes in the overall mission, roles, responsibilities and processes necessary to make business improvements.* Participates in defining organizational strategic goals and purposes; defines how to gather and keep customers.* Works to overcome BPI resistance from managers, the labor force and other groups.

Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.

Level Extensive Experience:

* Helps others learn the tools and techniques for process value analysis.* Carries out process evaluation, diagnosis, and optimization.* Demonstrates a thorough understanding of a major process flow, its components and issues.* Synchronizes the efforts of, and resource requirements for, several teams within a process.* Makes the business case for new processes, including their cost-benefit ratios.* Possesses knowledge of tools and techniques for designing and implementing new processes.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Level Extensive Experience:

* Seeks discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explains variances.* Organizes and prioritizes the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation.* Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research.* Quantifies the costs, benefits, risks and chances for success before recommending a course of action.* Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts.* Chooses among a diverse set of analytical tools according to the nature of the situation.

* Ensures capture of lessons to be learned from a problem-solving effort.* Organizes potential problem solvers and leads problem resolution efforts.* Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.* Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes.* Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies.* Develops successful resolutions to critical or wide-impact problems.

Process Mapping/Flowcharting: Knowledge of the concepts of process mapping; ability to carry out the documentation of current and proposed manufacturing processes to identify and make improvements.

Level Extensive Experience:

* Uses a wide variety of process mapping tools and techniques.* Creates maps for processes that involve multiple people and departments.* Selects the appropriate type of map for the manufacturing process.* Defines the process boundaries; lists and sequences steps.* Guides on the application of ovals, boxes, diamonds, and arrows, as needed.* Provides solutions to redundancies and gaps in processes.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences.

Level Extensive Experience:

* Investigates a broad range of problems, determines causes, and finds resolutions.* Recommends candidates for root cause analysis in spite of chaotic organizational conditions.* Develops corrective action based on RCA results.* Uses RCA techniques such as Re-enactment, Comparative Re-enactment, Re-construction.* Guides others to recognize repeat situations even when they are distributed over time or happen to different people.* Works with a variety of RCA approaches such as safety-based, production-based, process-based, failure-based, and systems-based.
