Job description - what you'll do
Find, pitch, write, and publish news stories, aggregate items for Brooklyn Media at a regular cadence each dayReport for news stories that need additional follow-ups (i.e., official statements, quotes, finding sources for original content, and pitching fresh angles to expand a story)Actively participate in editorial meetings and pitch processWork closely with our social team to develop social and social video content, collaborating to increase the reach of our news coverageUse contacts to get better access and information on stories within our world; perform due journalistic diligence on information capturedWho you are
3+ years of professional journalism experienceAbility to write with speed and accuracyMust have extensive knowledge of current events, pop culture, music, and sportsSharp news judgment, identifying the right angles for impactful storiesAbility to write strong, engaging headlinesAbility to thrive under daily deadline pressure, delivering high-quality work independentlyStrong writing and communication skills, proofreading experience, and quick decision-making skillsProficiency in SEO best practices, working with Content Management Systems (CMS), and strong ability to consider story presentation on social and social videoFlexibility to work nights and weekends for comprehensive news coverage.Bachelor's degree in journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experienceTravel requirements

Salary range
$72,000 - $85,000

Works primarily in an office environment but upon request will be encouraged to attend games and other events on evenings, weekends and holidays.
