POSITION

:

We are seeking a highly qualified art teacher who will be able to develop career skills and academic instruction for his/her students. The teacher will identify and implement best practices in instruction and student achievement. The teacher will motivate each student to acquire knowledge in art related facts and principles, skills in problem solving, and to discover and develop special talents of students in the arts. (We have two art teacher openings: one for a split K-12 art teacher with a few classes at each grade level, and another for strictly K-5.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following is a list of minimum qualifications for this position, any one of which may be waived by the Administration in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.

Valid Michigan Teaching CertificateA major in the subject area is strongly preferred, with a minimum of a bachelor's degreeA passionate commitment to improving learning for all studentsDemonstrated positive interpersonal relationshipsSkills in individualizing instructionEvidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholdersSuperior verbal and written communication skills

Creates a welcoming and positive classroom climate and cultureExhibits a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective CommitmentsTeaches skills and knowledge in one or more courses in drawing, painting, ceramics, photo, and fundamental artDevelops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, practical work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted timeDemonstrates proper use of materials, equipment, tools and processes, using standard or teacher-prepared models or other instructional aidsGuides students in selection of appropriate elective projects or experimentsDevelops classroom experiences based on the National and State Standards for Art EducationMaintains student classroom records using current district gradebookEncourage creativity and growth in artistic expressionSupports students in their individual development and artistic talentSupports school improvement/Advanced Ed initiatives at the district and school levelInstructs students in the use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care, and safe operation of tools, machines, and equipmentMaintains a clean and safe work area and properly stores all materials and equipmentMakes minor adjustments and requests repairs to tools and equipment as requiredEstablishes and maintains standards of student conduct needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom with many potential hazardsSelects and requisitions instructional aids and equipment; maintains required inventory records; makes purchases as authorizedMaintains professional competence through professional developmentCommunicates with parents and counselors on the individual progress of the studentsExecutes other duties assumes other responsibilities as assigned by building administrator
