ABOUT NEW CITY KIDSNew City Kids is a high energy, creative program for and with youth that is unique in trusting teens with leadership. It is a joyfulplace filled with laughter and hard work, and has an excellent staff of dedicated adults who love children. We employ local highschool students as interns to lead an excellent and unique music-focused program and summer camp for children ages 6-13,which provides a platform for a whole host of holistic development opportunities for children. As kids and teens engage NewCity Kids, we come alongside them and invite them to know the power of the gospel and to become disciples of Jesus Christ.
POSITION SUMMARYA teaching artist is an experienced musician and teacher who will equip teen music teachers to learn and play their instrumentwell, equipping the teen’s to lead and teach the after school center music classes.
RESPONSIBILITIES●
Facilitate group music lessons
- Teach weekly lessons to teen music teachers on how to play their instrument andteach a class, improving fluency in their instrument and skill in classroom management and teaching. Work with teenmusic teachers to update, form, and create weekly curriculum for music lessons using segments for upcoming week inmusic.●
Observe and guide teen music teachers
- Obtain feedback from other music staff and teens to gauge the progress ofkids in our ASC music classes and coaching teen music teachers on how to teach as you do. Coach teen teachers on bothclassroom management and the basic skills of teaching embodied in our model. Work to empower teens to be teachersand children to have an incentivized, stepped, learning system.●
Ensure class progress
- Obtain feedback from other music staff and teens to gauge the progress of kids in our ASCmusic classes. Track class progress and meet with the Music Director to regularly discuss teen classroom managementand behavior, and progress on curriculum.●
Prepare teen music teachers for performance
- Provide guidance and help prepare teen music teachers for end ofsemester performances. Ensure proper routine is taught well to students and mastered for performance.● Exemplify and support the overall Music School
- Abide by and embody all of the training, protocol and vision setforth in the Music School Manual, including BRING MAGIC FOR REAL, Curriculum Writing, GCAMP, SHARP, 5 Core Values,and the 3 Operational Priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS●
Instrument Proficiency
- Proficient in the following instrument: Piano! Other Instruments (Bass guitar, Drums) is aplus.●
Musical Competence
- Is able to understand all instruments offered at the basic level and has a strong ability to readstandard music notation.●
Public speaking
– Able to communicate in front of a diverse group and not afraid to exert energy to make learning funfor children in program.●
Affinity for gospel and/or pop
- Enjoys playing, teaching contemporary / traditional gospel music; pop music a plus.●

Teaching ability
- is a natural teacher and able to distill complex learning tasks into age-appropriate steps.●
Classroom Management
- has taught in a classroom setting and guided classes to accomplish learning goals over time.●

- enjoys being with children ages 6-18 and can communicate at an age-appropriate level. A strongcommitment to and ability to communicate the goals and mission of New City Kids, including a personal and activeChristian commitment, and alignment with our diversity, equity and inclusion policy.●
