Job DescriptionThis position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems.

Representative Duties And Tasks:Design/drafting with SolidWorksPerforms detailed design and documentation of mechanical components or subsystemsManages own design sub-tasks in support of the duties within the project assignedContributes to design and documentation of semi-complex mechanical components as active member of project teamProduces two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) CAD work product output for fabrication and assemblyGenerates mechanical designs considering material requirements and functional characteristicsGenerates and checks semi-complex to complex drawingsPerforms tolerance analysis studies as requiredCreates new and/or revises existing drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, and bills of material for our productsDetermines scaling; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning; prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations; prepares complete production detail drawings; contributes design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operationsChecks drawings versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standard engineering drafting practices and standardsWorks with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards and ECN/ECR documentationCreates Engineering Change Notices detailing the necessary changes to released designs, updates drawings/models/BOMs as needed, and routes change requests through the approval processCreates and revises documentation detailing assembly and/or testingMay work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storageWrites technical documents, test procedures, installation procedures, and process documentsConducts research to make recommendations to management for new vendors, products or technical specificationsConsistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issuesResearches and interfaces with vendors on products that meet job design requirementsUses the Engineering Change database to implement changes in a design document to cut costs where needed and record changes that are needed to improve on a productWorks as individual technical contributor or as part of development teamProvides work leadership to drafters / may manage small team of draftersOpen to new ideas and can serve as a champion for change and acts to support change when directed from managementAssists engineers in the design and development of complex and detailed layouts of printed circuit boards Participates in developing designs of new or modified high-density printed circuit boardsMay define design standards and configurationsWorks from preliminary schematics, part lists, and basic description of the board function, configuration, and arrangement as defined by engineeringInstructs drafter in the completion of drawings and specifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Proficient knowledge of material requirements, fabrication techniques, and manufacturability conceptsProficient knowledge of design principles and techniques including computer aided design (CAD)Trained/ experienced in the use of current strategic CAD tools (SolidWorks required)Proficient knowledge of the strategic CAD and file management toolsProficient knowledge of design documentation standards (e.g ASME Y14.5M, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)Proficient knowledge of mechanical stress; structural, thermal and tolerance analysisPossesses proficient problem solving and collaborative skillsDemonstrates initiative, applies personal talent to practical solutionsWorks within the trade space defined (cost / schedule / technology)Demonstrates the ability to weigh risks and make progress in the face of uncertaintyWillingly takes on problems and commits to solutionsProficient in Microsoft Office applicationsManages time to ensure an assignment's completion

Requirements:Associate's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. SolidWorks experience.

Clearance Requirements:Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
