PRIMARY PURPOSE

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from accredited college or universityValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assignedPhysical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate

Experience:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Strategies

Teach the District's curriculum utilizing well-designed lesson plans and rigorous instruction combined with curriculum activities and instructional objectives that are standards-based, measurable, and accelerate the transfer of learning and knowledgePlan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of student's assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulationsDevelop instructional units and opportunities for enrichments, differentiations, and project-based learning to provide for collaboration, creative thinking, and extended interaction among studentsConduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activitiesWork cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements

Student Growth and Development

Assess and document student mastery of curriculum objectives and student progress and growth utilizing frequent, appropriate, on-going and multiple assessment tools through interventions, and formal and informal assessment procedures, including standardized tests, formative assessments, performance tasks, enrichments and observationsAssume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principalBe a positive role model for students; be professional in appearance, in manner, and in attitude; and support mission of school district

Classroom Management and Organization

Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of studentsExecute and maintain appropriate student-centered discipline techniques and effective classroom management strategies to maximize student learning and time-on-taskManage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbookEngage parents and families in the academic and behavioral progress of their child by initiating parent conferences and providing opportunities for parents to continually support student learning and school programsAssist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials, identifying and using community resources consistent with the objectives of the classMaintain accurate and efficient record-keeping of official attendance records, grade reports, student files, documentation of state and local assessment preparation and other appropriate documents

Communication

Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community membersDemonstrate consistent loyalty to district, school, colleagues, and profession, being highly positive and supportive in staff relationships

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct the work of instructional aide(s)

EVALUATION:

The Classroom Teacher's evaluation is a responsibility resting with the campus principal. An evaluation shall be completed in writing at least once during the course of each school year
