Title: LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST

Position Type:

Primary Function:Provides for the delivery of media center services in the school setting. Provides support for effective use of technology in the classroom.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree and a Virginia teaching license with a library science endorsement.Exemplary teaching experience preferredExperience in technology use and developing technology-based solutions in educational settings preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with all students, parents, school personnel, and other members of the communityStrong organizational and management skillsAbility to prepare and disseminate written reports within required timelines.Ability to monitor and ensure appropriate student behaviorAbility to implement appropriate instructional technology to support content curriculum, the YCSD Strategic Plan and the VDOE Profile of a Virginia GraduateAbility to stay abreast of and analyze advancements and trends in educational technology and make recommendations for changes and improvements to systems and/or programs that support instruction.Considerable knowledge of internet safety, copyright & fair use, and COPPA & FERPA guidelinesConsiderable knowledge of effective technology use for performance assessments, project-based learning and STEM instructionPerformance Responsibilities:

Orders, processes, maintains and circulates print and non-print media center materials; solicits input from faculty concerning the selection of new materials.Makes available lists, reviews, and catalogs for teachers to use in selecting and requesting materials which support their curriculum.Plans collaboratively with classroom teacher so that media center skills are taught in conjunction with curriculum related activities; participates in the planning, development and implementation of curriculum programs.Prepares bibliographies and other materials on specific subjects for student and teacher use; publishes regularly, lists of new materials added to the media center collection.Provides leadership for school-based technology integration.Researches, investigates and uses site-specific instructional devices and applications to support teaching and learning.Works collaboratively to develop and conduct appropriate professional development sessions related to the use of media center materials, instructional technology and STEM resources.Supports the learning commons and career readiness initiatives at the high school level.Provides technical expertise and assistance for all on-site productivity applications and instructional software.Maintains the integrity of licensing for all technology applications installed on site and adheres to school division policies and regulations dealing with licensing.Performs basic diagnosis and troubleshooting for division owned instructional technology devices, productivity applications, and peripherals and refers problems to Information Technology for repair.Maintains an inviting and pleasant environment that encourages maximum use of the library or learning commons by both students and faculty.Conducts an end-of-the-year inventory of library materials and school equipment.Maintains accurate, complete records and reports as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.Perform other duties as assigned.Reports to:

Terms of Employment:

Teaching contract plus 3 days. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations regarding the evaluation of licensed personnel.
