JOB GOAL:

To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of a general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music/ to develop knowledge and skills in listening to an dreading music so that the students may benefit from a self-discipline as well as a sheer enjoyment of music.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Music

Give students a knowledge of basic music skills, or fundamentals; (note-reading through a keyboard study/instrumental study in grade 5-8)Encourage students to "actively" participate in singing, listening, and performance activities.Instill within each student an appreciation and understanding of all types (serious jazz, folk, etc.) and kinds (world music, Indian music, etc.) of music.Encourage a creative effort in each student when singing, performing and composing music.Through a study of melody, harmony, rhythm, and expression of music, a student will have a sense of accomplishment when he/she applies his/her knowledge.Give students a brief description of music, musicians, and form throughout each era in history.Help each child develop more fully: physically, mentally ,emotionally, and perhaps spiritually to fell good about himself and others.Help students develop some proficiency in performance with both voice and instruments (rhythm instruments and keyboard pianos).General

Establish an effective climate for learning experiences.Establish learning objectives for each lesson.Plan lessons and file with building administrator.Encourage students to think creatively and independently.Assess student accomplishments regularly.Assist students in establishing high standards of conduct.Attend professional conferences and workshops.Help chaperone school-sponsored events.Help students organize school programs, or performance groups.Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.Will perform other duties and tasks as assigned.The school district reserves the right to amend the job description as necessary.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Contract as per approved school calendar. Salary to be established by the Governing Board's approval of the Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
