Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Director, Television Communications Center (Supervisor), the incumbent is responsible for all aspects of assigned video, audio, and audio-visual productions from concept development to the finished product and distribution. Responsibilities include researching project topics, fact checking information for accuracy, writing scripts, and determining production requirements for execution of the script. Video production responsibilities include interviewing subject matter experts, location and studio talent direction, lighting, sound recording, animated graphics creation, narration direction, and music selection. The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with digitizing video media from various formats of tape, archiving the media on a central server, and data basing the media for future retrieval and usage. Technical duties include operation of digital video and audio recording equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), editing software, visual effects software, and video streaming equipment and software.

This is a limited-term appointment for one year (12 months) with the potential to extend for an additional year (24 months total) and/or become permanent.

Special Requirements

The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.Must maintain an FAA Certificate of Authorization to operate drones for aerial videography. Other certification training includes OP-2 Awareness, Confined Space, Air Quality Monitoring, Fall Protection, Heat Illness Prevention, and Trenching and Shoring. Must have normal or corrected vision, and normal color vision. Must possess a valid California Class C driver's License as periodic statewide travel is required. Ability to move and transport production equipment up to 50 lbs. required. Evening and weekend overtime work and overnight stays may be required. May be required to shoot aerial video from a helicopter, shoot underwater video in rivers and streams, document large-scale construction, and hike with equipment including areas of the mountains requiring snowshoes.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Our ideal candidate must possess artistic and creative abilities, have experience in video development and production, and have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. The incumbent must also work cooperatively with others and exercise good judgment. Technical and production knowledge of streaming video utilizing YouTube, Facebook Live, and Zoom platforms with live captioning is desirable. Experience creating animated graphics with Adobe After Effects and editing video with Adobe Premier is also desirable. Experience digitizing video from various formats of tape with proper video and audio levels and data-basing for later searching and retrieval is a plus.
