Title : Book Department Editor

Reports to : Vice President of Editorial and Director of Editorial, Book Department

General Description of Responsibilities :

The book editor will serve Crossway's publishing ministry by managing the editorial process for various book projects through the copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading stages. He or she will strive to ensure excellence of content, beauty of expression, and theological faithfulness. The editor will work under and closely with the vice president of editorial and the director of editorial, and will collaborate with the rest of the Book Department team (including acquisitions and editorial colleagues), the Production team, and other Crossway colleagues as needed.

Specific Responsibilities :

Copyediting 12-15 books per calendar year for content, style, and doctrine, including books toward the academic end of the spectrumInteracting with typesetters to provide all that they need to do their jobs effectivelyEngaging and overseeing the work of freelance proofreaders and indexers for book projectsWorking through projects in an efficient, timely mannerMeeting regularly with supervisor and others to discuss project issuesOther editorial needs that arise

Position Requirements :

Undergraduate degree in Bible, theology, philosophy, journalism, English, or a related fieldMaster's degree or beyond in biblical or theological studies. Familiarity with biblical languages strongly desirableExtensive copyediting experience in a professional context, including some copyediting of book-length manuscriptsFamiliarity with The Chicago Manual of StyleDetail oriented, able to focus for long periods, clear in communication, and well organizedAdherence to a robust evangelical theology in the historic stream of the Reformation-that is, broadly Reformed in line with the doctrinal DNA of Crossway's publishing ministry-and willingness to affirm Crossway's Statement of Faith, Statement of Classic Reformation Orthodoxy, and statements on Human Sexuality and Complementarity

Salary :

Competitive salary based on previous work experience, education, acquired skills, and established relationships. Salary commensurate with current standards for comparable positions and responsibilities within publishing and other leading not-for-profit ministries. Compensation reviewed and evaluated annually by the Executive Compensation Committee (ECC) of the Crossway Board of Directors.
