General Summary

This position is responsible for providing 24-hour emergent and non-emergent communications services. This position is responsible for insuring Officer and Responder safety at all times, while assisting the Public with their needs, requests, and queries. The Dispatch position is also responsible for maintaining and updating public and confidential records efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities:

* Answer phone calls including 9-1-1* Dispatching appropriate personnel to requests for service* Enter calls for service* Process requests by officers using appropriate software programs* Contact other employees of the University as needed* Perform daily security camera checks* Take Messages for other members of the department* Issue reports for officers* Enter stolen items into the state/national databases* Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University, Local, State, and Federal training.* Displays tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for criticism of duty performance and supports administrative policy* Send out Buff Alerts and BRG Emergency Alerts as needed* This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Necessary Qualifications:

* High School Diploma or GED* Ability to obtain a Telecommunicator License within 6 months of date of hire.* Valid driver's license and ability to maintain TAMUS Driver's approval.* Must complete personal history statement.* Knowledge of secretarial & clerical practices, basic computer knowledge, and possess excellent verbal & written communication skills.* Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.* Ability to work successfully with the public, other departments, and other law enforcement agencies as well as UPD supervisors and employees.* Ability to perform under high stress conditions while maintaining emotional stability.* Ability to adapt to changing situations quickly.* Ability to make effective decisions under pressure.* Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with departmental, state, and federal guidelines.* Ability to read and write proficiently in the English Language.* Ability to endure long periods of sitting in a confined work area.* Must be able to pass an extensive background check with no convictions of Class C Misdemeanor or above, psychological evaluation, and drug test.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree* One year experience in public safety dispatching environment and experience with law enforcement communications (i.e. radio, teletype, security and alarm monitoring systems).* Telecommunicator License, knowledge of FCC rules and regulations pertaining to the operation of public safety communications equipment.* Knowledge of WTAMU Campus and adjacent area, of Law Enforcement Communications area, Microsoft Office, TLETS/NLETS, TCIC/NCIC, and workable knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws.* Knowledge of all aspects of telecommunications including but not limited to call-taking, dispatching, telephone and radio etiquette, and computer software programs.
