Closing Date:Until FilledFunction / Position SummaryThis paid internship will provide an opportunity to support and learn about internal and external communications efforts within a large public school district. The internship will develop a student's oral and written communication skills, and general career skills, and help build their portfolio under the direction of the Director and in collaboration with an award-winning school district communications professional team.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Assist with writing and design for press releases, fact sheets, narratives, and special publications, including marketing materialSupport the District website with basic updates, posts, and migration workAssist with social media content creation and monitoringDevelop communication pieces to promote District events, programs, achievementsProvide multimedia support, including short videos and photographyAssist with special event planning and preparationSupport community outreach initiativesAssist with preparation of presentations, letters, and scriptsEducationRegistered College student majoring in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism.Experience / KnowledgeExcellent writing and editing skillsKnowledge of AP StyleProficient with Microsoft Office Products and Google DriveExperience in social media, website, and content managementExperience using graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, IllustratorStrong interpersonal communication and presentation skillsAbility to consistently meet deadlinesBilingual (English/Spanish) is a plusPhysical DemandsAbility to work on a computer for a major portion of the dayAbility to carry up to 20 pounds of camera equipmentFrequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptionsTerms of Employment
This is a temporary, paid position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.Must work on-site at School District U-46 Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin, and within our 90-square mile district for at least 25 to 30 hours a week between summer andMid-December 2023. Driver's license and access to a car required.$16.00 - $19.00 per hour
