OVERVIEW OF GEORGE KEVERIAN SCHOOL

The KEVERIAN school is a K-8 Elementary school that offers a joyful approach to learning in adiverse, respectful, and inclusive environment for approximately 900 students in early childhoodthrough eighth-grade. We have two sections of each grade level K- 8 with class sizes thataverage from 14-26 per class. The KEVERIAN SCHOOL specializes in education that inspiresstudents by nurturing each individual's voice, intellect, and character. With rich content and anemphasis on inquiry-based and student-driven projects, students are empowered andencouraged to be active and engaged learners. Our students' innate sense of wonder is thefoundation of learning at the Keverian School. Position OverviewThe Keverian School seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching musiceducation to students in grades K-8th Grade and assists the staff of the school in theimprovement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps students grow in their enjoyment,appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences whichinclude singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening and performs other dutiesdirectly related to this job description.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

? Teaches general music to K-8th grade including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble. ? Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages andskill levels of students. ? Provides opportunities for music ensembles including rock band, choir& musicals. ? Plans, rehearses, and directs students in three musical programs for school andcommunity (Veterans Day, HOLIDAY, Vocal Night, Memorial Day Concerts). ? Differentiatemusic curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body. ? Plans abalanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and

instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. ? Develops and refines musiccurriculum based on MENC standards of creating, performing, and responding. ? Establishesand maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environmentduring practice, group rehearsals, and music performances. ? Evaluates each student's musicalgrowth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute. ?Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individualstudents. ? Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, andequipment to prevent loss or abuse. ? Cooperation with Principal and staff in providing musicalprograms for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED ? Minimum BA or MA in Music or Music Education ?Massachusetts Teaching Certification Music Education K-12,Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels ? Strong instrumental skills, including pianoaccompaniment ? Orff, Kodaly, or Dalcroze training strongly encouraged
