Senior Communication Specialist:

SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, provides administrative and creative support to the Chief of Communications. Duties involve assisting with the administration of public relations efforts involving media relationships, graphic design, technical writing, social media presence, website updates, internal special event coordination, customer engagement and community affairs projects, technical and journalistic writing photo and videography. The Senior Communications Specialist is the lead for external customer engagement, project management and special event coordination.

Duties include but are not limited to:Collaborates with the Chief of Communications and the Communications Specialist in execution of the BJWSA Strategic Focus Plan, the Strategic Communications Plan and Communications activities. Creates message maps for crisis communications, and is prepared to step in and manage communications activities including crisis communications and BJWSA spokesperson in the absence of the Chief of Communications.Directs department activities including public affairs reports, website updates, publications and press kits. Leads internal targeted marketing programs and campaigns.Fosters and maintains relationships with local media and government and collaborates to provide information to support best practices for community information, particularly during emergencies.Provides graphic design and technical writing support for BJWSA publications. Collaborates with the Chief of Communications and other departments on creative projects for the Authority. Leads website maintenance and design. Monitors and manages BJWSA social media presence in collaboration with the Communications Specialist. Edits BJWSA's internal and external newsletters under direction of the Chief of CommunicationsDevelops and maintains positive relationships with print and electronic media, schedules media interviews and Editorial Board meetings for senior staff. Coordinates responses to media inquiries in the absence of the Chief of Communications. Establishes and maintains active (even virtual) speakers' bureau.Helps devise communication strategies for use with customers, special interest groups and the media.Collaborates with internal customers (departments and leadership) to deliver strategic communication collateral materials and activities, Collects and responds to FOIA requests through the Authority attorney.Organizes and plans responses to requests for plant tours, speakers and information tables at community events. Coordinates educational outreach initiatives.Assists in website maintenance and design. Monitors and manages BJWSA social media presence. Must be able to manage lead design and production of digital and in-house materials. Assists with daily media and social media searches for BJWSA references and delivers appropriate responses as directed by Authority leadership.Coordinates notifying customers of scheduled and emergency water shutoffs across service area. Coordinates with several departments to ensure that impacted customers are not overlooked.Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Prefer a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design or related field and four years of experience in public affairs, media, communications, community relations and/or graphic design. Must possess experience with computer applications and possess the ability to operate Authority-specific software. Prefer experience in Microsoft Office, graphic design and video editing software. Must have the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing, possess excellent organizational skills. Experience with technical writing, PR agency or consulting, and/or the utility sector preferred. Must be available and willing to work occasional nights and weekends.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver's license.

Communication Specialist :

The Communications Specialist is the lead for all internal customer engagement and promoting collaboration and company culture, including the bi-weekly newsletter, events and support for other departments.

Duties include but are not limited to:Collaborates with the Chief of Communications and the Senior Communications Specialist in execution of the BJWSA Strategic Focus Plan, the Strategic Communications Plan and Crisis Communications activities. Creates message maps for crisis communications, and is prepared to step in and manage communications activities in the absence of the Senior Communications Specialist.Coordinates department activities including public affairs reports, website updates, publications and press kits. Provides support for developing and implementing internal targeted marketing programs and campaigns. Fosters and maintains relationships with local media and government and collaborates to provide information to support best practices for community information, particularly during an emergency.Provides graphic design and technical writing support for internal publications. Collaborates with the Chief of Communications and other departments on creative projects for the Authority. Develops website maintenance and design. Monitors and supports BJWSA's social media presence. Drafts and publishes BJWSA's internal newsletter under direction of the Chief of Communications; is co-editor of the bi-annual customer newsletter. Collects and organizes photo and video collateral for educational and promotional use.Develops and maintains positive relationships with print and electronic media, schedules media interviews and Editorial Board meetings for senior staff. Coordinates responses to media inquiries in the absence of the Chief of Communications. Establishes and maintains active (even virtual) speakers' bureau.Collaborates with the Human Resources team to support Authority-wide and employee events, and works to expand engagement and culture awareness through outreach and additional events/initiatives. [State of the Authority; quarterly meetings with General Manager; employee engagement events and others as needed] With input from the Senior Communications Specialist, maintains adequate inventory of appropriate materials for tours and events. Coordinates set-up and logistics for external events such as groundbreakings. Initiates and tracks purchases for printing, special events, newspaper ads and publishing projects. Coordinates purchases and distribution of BJWSA promotional items.Performs daily media and social media searches for BJWSA references.Receives, acknowledges and tracks recognition of employee achievements including placement in company publications.Coordinates with Beaufort and Jasper County's Emergency Management Departments and BJWSA operations for Hurricane emergency employee re-entry pass assignments, organizes by department for emergency distribution. Facilitates other emergency preparedness procedures and updates to include the Quick Guide.Works closely with Organizational Development & Safety Manager and Human Resources to enhance employee engagement and culture.Performs other duties as required.
