Position Summary

The responsibilities of this position comprise of teaching assigned courses in the Environmental & Interior Design curriculum. As an Adjunct Faculty member, the post holder is expected to perform all duties professionally, is expected to remain current in the discipline and pedagogy and ethically support the policies and mission of the University.

Direct Report to: Dean of the School of Humanities, Arts & Design.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide feedback and assessment of student performanceMaintain a positive and engaging learning environmentDemonstrate ongoing professional competency by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and remaining current in the academic discipline.Attend departmental meetings and participate in faculty development activities as requiredSupport policies as stated in the Chaminade School of Humanities, Arts & Design Handbook and in course syllabi.

Education and Experience

MinimumMaster's degree in Interior Design or a related fieldBachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field with experience/expertise in implementing universal design principles in residential and commercial contexts may be considered

PreferredTeaching experience in higher education (online, in-person, and/or hybrid instruction)NCIDQ credential are required by CIDA for studio instruction

Required Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body at all levels of the universityProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), and other programs related to teaching, learning, advising, and assessmentStrong knowledge of Environmental & Interior DesignFamiliarity with educational technology and ability to use it to enhance student learningOrganized with meticulous attention to detailDedication to providing high-quality education to studentsFamiliarity with educational technology and ability to use it to enhance student learningExcellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resourcesAbility to meet deadlinesAttention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and qualityHigh integrity and ethical standards

Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

Other Requirements:This is a part time, exempt position. Nineteen hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedulePerforms such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or requiredObserves all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University.
