NBC News is looking for an experienced producer to join its Investigative Unit who comes with a proven track record of success producing timely original reporting, strong enterprise work and award-winning investigations for a broadcast news organization. This person will be adept at pitching stories to pursue in and around the news cycle and will be expected to produce quick-turn original reporting and rapid investigations. This person will embrace working in a collaborative newsroom, across correspondent and producer teams, deadline pressure and working in the field. Strong script writing and attention to detail are crucial, as well as strong news judgment, journalistic ethics, and a strong story sense. The ideal candidate will have experience producing original, high-impact, award-winning short-form stories.

Responsibilities include developing original, in-depth reporting and regular weekly stories for daily news programs within NBC News. They will be adept at producing for a range of shows, content types and platforms. This producer will be at ease managing all phases of reporting from ideation to execution, including in-depth reporting, interview selection and preparation, scripting and editing. This producer will also be a strong reporter and writer who can produce original and enterprising work and can write for digital when required. The ideal candidate can think visually and creatively, turning complex investigations into compelling stories for a mass audience. They should also be comfortable producing flash investigations, enterprise reporting, crash assignments and have a zeal for breaking news in a competitive news environment. The investigative unit works with all platforms within the NBC News group, so the ability to work collaboratively is a must. The ability to collect, analyze and present data is important, as is acquiring documents (through FOIA, sources, etc.). The ability to shoot is highly desired, as is video editing.

Responsibilities

+ Produce for a range of shows, content types and platforms, including field producing and package producing

+ Conceive, research and pitch day-of-air segments, original reporting and long-form enterprise series for NBC News' broadcast and digital platforms

+ Independently shoot, write and produce taped stories and segments

+ Maintain timely understanding of current events, looking for investigative possibilities connected to news

+ Build and maintain sourcing within government, industry and other relevant areas

+ Collaborate with a full team of correspondents, reporters, producers and editors on a broad range of topics

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in journalism or relevant course of study, or equivalent years of relevant work experience

+ 5+ years' experience as full-time producer specializing in investigative reporting and/or enterprise reporting

+ Must have experience in producing stories, including researching, writing - shooting is a plus

+ Must be willing to travel as needed

+ Able and willing to work flexible hours, under tight deadlines, including breaking news

+ Must be willing to work in NYC

+ This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week

+ Exceptional news judgment and editorial skills. Ability to recognize stories with high potential for compelling content.

+ Strong writing skills

+ Ability to shoot and edit video

+ Strong time management skills

+ Proficiency with Slack and iNews

+ Have a high metabolism for daily news, while also constantly thinking about the bigger picture

+ Possess a strong understanding of investigative reporting skills, including big data, FOIA, and document analysis

+ Ability to synthesize complex stories for a general audience
