Position is open until filled.Job SummaryThe American Battlefield Trust, the nation’s premier historic land preservation nonprofit, seeks a Communications & Marketing Associate to build awareness of the Trust, its mission, programs and impact. Using earned, owned and paid media, as well as other creative outreach, you will introduce potential advocates and funders to our cause, ultimately saving hallowed ground and helping more Americans appreciate the ongoing resonance of our nation’s history.Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesProactively generate attention for the Trust, its programs and initiativesWrite and edit news releases, statements, columns, articles, posts, emails and briefs about Trust activities for a variety of audiences, outlets and formatsAdvance messaging that defines the Trust brand and builds relationships with partner organizations to help us expand reach and impactConceptualize and create visual and multi-media content with internal teams and outside contractorsEvaluate and pursue brand-building opportunities, including advertising, sponsorships and content marketingIdentify and pitch outlets that carry sway in communities impacted by Trust workServe as an organizational spokesperson in print and on cameraLiase with partners to unify messaging and organize news/advocacy eventsCreate talking points and briefings to prepare Trust leadership for appearancesContribute to writing and production of

Hallowed Ground , our award-winning membership magazineQuantify efficacy of outreach efforts and refine techniques to maximize impactCollaborate with internal teams to shape and populate social media campaignsRequired Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceBachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in media relations, communications and/or marketingOutstanding and efficient writing skills, including matching tone and style to the audience and medium without sacrificing clarityStrong grammar and editing ability, including self-editing for succinctness and precisionComfort speaking in public, off-the-cuff and on-the-record; willingness to cold-call pitch media on the phone and via emailDemonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and meet firm deadlinesOutstanding attention to detail paired with creativity and an eye for good designExcellent organizational skills coupled with a results-oriented and problem-solving mindset that seeks solutions and uses creativity to find work arounds as necessaryStrong work ethic with the ability to thrive in both independent and collaborative settingsKeen interest in American history and a flair for good storytellingProficiency in Microsoft Office suite required; experience with Drupal CMS, graphic design and visual storytelling platforms and software highly valuedAt the American Battlefield Trust, we build parks and tell stories — the narrative threads that make up the rich tapestry of our nation.
