Managing Consultant, Art Director

with an impressive portfolio to join our growing, global design team. This position is a

hybrid work

model in the proximity of our

Cleveland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Boston, Washington D.C., Houston, or Rolling Meadows office.

In this client-facing role within our Change and Transformation team, you will work under the direction of the Creative Director and collaborate with other art directors, graphic designers, project managers, and consultants, to lead design on client engagements from creative concepts through design execution of sustainability reports, change management campaigns, stakeholder engagement programs, digital data dashboards, and sustainability-focused branding systems and communications.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mid to senior design professional looking to work with an expert consulting team on interesting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) projects for a wide range of Fortune 500 and privately held clients—helping them achieve positive and tangible social, environmental, and economic impact. See Case Studies for representative client engagements.ResponsibilitiesProvide art direction to graphic designers on client sustainability communications, including reports, websites, identity systems, digital dashboards, informational graphics, video, animation, and stakeholder engagement materials.Consult with client teams and directly with clients on creative, engaging ways to leverage communications in the digital space.Build strong and trusted relationships internally and externally.Research and report on design trends to the design team and ERM’s Visual Communication Design technical community.Manage administrative tasks for small team of two to four graphic designers, including mentoring, conducting performance reviews, and setting career goals.Lead recruiting and onboarding efforts, including working with ERM recruiter, reviewing design résumés, conducting candidate interviews, and onboarding new designers.Present design work, answer questions, and provide strategic insight on client calls.Aid the design team in setting and managing client design project schedules.Oversee existing design rules and processes with design team.Work with Creative Director in design sales and promotion through identifying opportunities, developing design estimates, reviewing and contributing to proposals, and maintaining quality of ERM’s design portfolio and business development materials.RequirementsMinimum Background & ExpertiseBachelor’s degree in Graphic Design/Visual Communications (or equivalent)Six or more years of professional graphic design experienceTwo or more years of experience managing a small teamStrength in people leadershipExceptional portfolio showcasing print, interactive, and branding workBreadth of previous work in multi-page document and editorial layout design (annual/sustainability reports, books, brochures, magazines, etc.)Superior understanding of typography and page layoutExtreme attention to detail and proven commitment to quality control, including maintaining file hygieneStrength in client communications and leading design-focused discussionsAbility to communicate complex information to a broad audience of internal and external stakeholdersProficient in Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and XD), and Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel)Solid understanding of UX/UI design for digital experiencesKnowledge of CSS and HTMLAdditional Skills & ExperienceKnowledge of environmental, social, or economic aspects of sustainabilityConsulting industry experience providing services to large corporate clientsEstimating design budgetsDigital accessibility for websites and PDFsKnowledge of Workiva and InDesign integrationExperience with Monday.com project management softwarePrint management and professional printing file preparationVideo and animation productionIllustration talentRetouching capabilities3D renderingSocial media experience on major platforms, i.e., Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedInPersonal CharacteristicsSelf-motivated individual with personal initiative, a flexible attitude, and the ability to multi-task and work with shifting deadlinesAble to work extended hours when necessaryExtremely conscientious with high attention to detailHighly creative, not only with unconventional thinking, but knows how to push creativity within more controlled project parameters and client brand standardsStrong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, and assertiveness as well as the ability to manage up and communicate wellAbility to handle conflict and manage difficult conversations internally and externallyAbility to work independently, as well as part of a team, and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environmentIntegrates Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B) into leadership culturePlease submit your résumé, brief cover letter, and design portfolio.ERM does not accept recruiting agency resumes.
