We have one (1) exciting opportunity for a

Library Technician II position

located at our campus in San Jacinto, CA. Under the general direction of the Coordinator of Library Services, the Library Technician II performs a variety of functions involved in the circulation of library materials, administers the reserve material collection, prepares overdue notices, leads and trains lower level staff and directs the operations of the circulation desk in the absence of higher level staff. The Library Technician II maintains library functions and assists students in accessing library materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements and duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.Register patrons and confirm employment and/or enrollment status Charge and discharge library materials Prepare overdue notices and bills Collect fines and lost material fees Resolve routine circulation discrepancies Construct a list of financial obligation holds and place and release holds Organize, administer and act as a liaison with faculty for reserve materials Process, prepare and distribute hold materials Prepare interlibrary loan materials for pickup Oversee the retrieval of outside book return materials Oversee the processing and maintenance of the periodical collection in the absence of the Technical Services Specialist Train and lead lower level staff Direct the operations of the circulation desk in the absence of higher level staff Balance cash register receipts Assist students in the use of the library, print and electronic reference materials Identify lost and damaged materials for replacement Participate in the acquisition of library materials Coordinate the distribution of mail Attend workshops, conferences and seminars to maintain currency in the field

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of:Routine technical and library methods and practices Current books and authors, magazines and widely circulated publications

Implement a set of procedural activities involved in a technical library function or process Do standardized cataloging and reference work Initiate and process acquisitions Conduct and carry out circulation orders and similar library processes Train and lead others in assigned procedures Meet and deal tactfully with the public, staff, and/or students Operate standard office equipment including copiers, calculators, and computer system Perform a variety of routine library work with substantial independence Read and write at a level appropriate to the assigned duties Use good grammar, spell and punctuate correctly Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSTwo (2) years or 48 semester units of college-level course work (*attach transcripts);

AND

Three (3) years of progressively responsible library experience;

AND

Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

SUBSTITUTIONSSubstitutions for meeting the minimum qualifications of this position are allowed, as follows:

College level coursework in a related field may be substituted for the

experience

Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use library automation systems, digital resources and other relevant productivity software in a library environment to produce documents Familiarity with library technical processes such as acquisitions and cataloging Prior experience in approaching work and interaction with colleagues and/or students in an equity-minded manner Ability to promote an inclusive and welcoming work/education environment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTInitial salary placement for this position is from

Step 1 to Step 4

depending on the amount of reasonably related experience. This job is a Classified position,

Level 14 , working full time. The position serves District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility. Work hours are subject to change depending on department needs.

The work schedule is as follows:

40 hours per week, 12 months = Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 5 pm; Friday 8 am - 12 pm

A six-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the District. The District provides a contribution towards medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Vacation and sick leave are provided. PERS participation is required for retirement eligible employees.

MSJC is located about 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 50 miles west of Palm Springs.
