Job Description

The Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System is hiring a

Communications Program Manager

to develop, coordinate and manage the communication program.

The successful candidate will strategize with the Chief Strategy Officer and other members of IPERS' Strategy Division to execute frequently complex, technical subjects, including pension system administration, investment performance, and state and federal laws and guidelines. The successful candidate will use a highly creative and strategic approach to formulate, coordinate and execute multiple communication efforts simultaneously. They will identify goals for each initiative to ensure the ability to measure performance. They will have a strong knowledge of new and emerging communication tools and the ability to identify appropriate communication methods to successfully connect with varied audiences.

Responsibilities include the following:Implementing IPERS' brand standards, style and usage requirements.Writing content for various communication platforms and audiences, including repositioning technical content as easy-to-understand messages.Managing IPERS' social media platforms, including creating strategies, goals, calendars, content and supporting graphics, images and video.Coordinating with vendors to execute various communications initiatives, including printing, and direct mail.Writing and distributing news release that often explain technical topics.Designing, editing and updating publications, website, social media content, etc., using Adobe Creative Cloud applications.Managing and other websites, including coordinating with the vendor and using the content management system to perform day-to-day maintenance; creating strategies, goals, content and supporting graphics, images and videos.Knowledge Drupal and Adobe Creative Cloud, including Premiere Pro, InDesign and Illustrator, is preferred.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications and experience equal to four years of full-time work planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking.

2) All of the following (a and b):

a. Four years of full-time work experience in planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking; and

b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications equals one year of fulltime experience.

3) Number two above, where twenty-four semester hours of postgraduate coursework in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required full-time work experience.

4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 18 months of full-time work as an Information Specialist 2.
