Reporting to the Executive Director and working in collaboration with the Advisory Artistic Director, this role at NEMPAC will be responsible for collaborating this season on the artistic vision, creation, and oversight of our annual NEMPAC Opera Project which occurs in June of every year. The role will take over the Artistic Director position in season 2023-24. This seasonal role executes and supervises the production, starting with the casting and hiring of artists, managing the production and schedule of each performance program, and overseeing any and all artistic decision-making. This role is responsible for ensuring diverse artists and genres of music are represented and reflected in NEMPAC’s Performance Season. The NEMPAC Opera Project is NEMPAC’s largest performance program within its robust Performing Arts Center. The project presents full opera productions with a professional cast of singers and a professional orchestra, operating on a small to moderate size annual project budget. The annual production occurs in mid to late June each year, with peak production season in May and June (12 - 18 hour commitment of time for oversight and project execution), and planning and auditions from September to April (about 4 - 6 hour time commitment per month for meetings/planning). Past performance venues have included The Great Hall, Faneuil Hall, Boston Center for the Arts, and community outreach performances in The Paul Revere Mall, North End; St. Stephen’s Church, Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park, and Charlestown Parks. Job Responsibilities: This individual role is accountable for the following: Demonstrates the ability to reflect NEMPAC’s core organization values in everyday tasks, communications, hiring, management, and artistic decisions - excellence, equity, collaboration, creativity, and love. Following NEMPAC’s policies, this role will support equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in every aspect of the role and in hiring. Maintain good standing and membership with the Black Opera Alliance, as well as the Boston Opera Alliance. Will work to prioritize accessibility for all audience members at each performance project and/or program. Will hire a production team including directors, designers, front-of-house staff, cast, and crew, as well as have information and resources to hire past creative team. Responsible for managing venue and communications with venue sites, including adhering to procedures and policies in each performance space. Will serve as producer for NEMPAC Opera Project 2022-23 Season. Collaborates with NEMPAC development and marketing team on program/project materials. Attends monthly NEMPAC staff meetings during peak performance operating months, and meets with dept heads as needed (virtual or in-person). Hosts regular production meetings during peak project/program period. Collaborates with the NEMPAC Community Music School on student and community engagement opportunities on productions/programs. Manages budget and reporting on each performance season; budget size between $25 - 40K, dependent on annual funding. Responsible for annual performance season audience impact report and will liaise with Executive Director on annual reporting. Responsible to work with Development Team on any grant reporting or narrative requirements to support funding potential. Will oversee NEMPAC Opera Project social media account and meet NEMPAC marketing guidelines. Role will support hiring of professional artists as needed for annual NEMPAC fundraising event or major gala. Qualifications:

3-5 years of experience working in theatre in all aspects, from being a performer, director, designer, comprehensive knowledge of technical theatre, front of house experience, to producing, to casting to community outreach. Experience artistic directing in a professional music or theatre production. Extremely organized and time-efficient. Excellent writing, communication, and oral skills. Experience with budget management. Passionate and energized to represent the NEMPAC organization. Ability to manage deadlines, work independently and also collaboratively with the NEMPAC team, attend meetings.
