Apex Systems is hiring a Communications Advisor to join the team with one of our Fortune 500 Energy clients in San Diego, CA.

Description:The Communications Advisor works primarily as a project manager supporting customer communications and advertising functions.The Communications Advisor interfaces with internal marketing clients and external advertising agencies and/or internal Creative Services department to produce customer communications/marketing materials to help clients meet their program goals/objectives.Manages customer communications projects and campaigns.Develops communications plans, including client budgets, and directs their implementation to meet the needs of the business units throughout the company, through all media channels (web, email, direct mail, TV/Radio/Print advertising, collateral, etc).Analyzes research findings and incorporates into communications, accordingly.Provides strategic direction for new research efforts as they relate to customer communications.Responsible for coordinating with other communications team members (Media Relations, Internal Communications, Web, etc.) to ensure consistent, integrated messages. Interfaces with other areas within Customer Communications and Research to coordinate department activities on projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:Develop, implement and communicate corporate strategy and key messages to a wide variety of audiences in clear language, using a variety of communications tactics.Research, write and edit all types of external and internal communication materials.Serve as a corporate media spokesperson with national and local news media.Ensure internal/external communications are integrated.Collaborate with other departments to develop/implement successful media relations and internal communications plans and strategies for the company.Provide 24-hour media and employee communications response during emergency/crisis situations. Serve rotating after-hours beeper duty.Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Excellent writing, editing, oral communications, communications planning, issues and project management skills.Effectively communicate positions and points of view.Ability to translate complex material into comprehensible language for targeted audiences.Ability to manage projects against deadlines.Work effectively in a team environment and ability to work in a large organization with multiple layers.Demonstrated understanding of communications channels, production and distribution.Ability to understand different audiences, their needs and potential reactions to communications strategies, and corporate intranets.Excellent interpersonal skills/relationships and effective organizational know-how.Working knowledge of social media.Strong commitment to quality and accuracy.Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Education/Experience:5+ years Corporate, agency or public-sector public relations experience.5+ years’ Experience as an on-camera media spokesperson.5+ years’ Experience interfacing with management.Bachelor's Degree Journalism, communications, or public relations.
